For the hard-core, long-time fans of the Allman Brother's Band - the dagger goes a little deeper into the heart. Another part of us has died or is dying.

Of course, this could be like the demise of the band it's self - not going out of business, just changing a cook or two and opening again, or during special occasions whenever they feel like it - that kind of thing.

Like someone else said - stay tuned!

Too bad. They should have tried to get redone by Restaurant Impossible with Robert Irvine

I was there before they closed for renovation and Mama came out and talked to us. She stated that she was ready to retire, and I for one am glad for her

It's a well-deserved retirement too -- for both ladies -- gosh how long has the H&H been around -- it must have been (is) a long-time staple of Macon -- as you said, how fitting too paralleling the band's career like it does
Mama Louise Hudson -- a wonderful part of the growth of this band -- happy retirement, ma'am

Right on, time waits for no one.

Any of these TV shows would have made for a great replay of history for both the Restaurant and the band's legacy.

I've eaten at H&H a handful of times in my life. It is an historic restaurant. Unfortunately historic is not a quality I usually look for in restaurants. I never had a really good meal there.

Gosh -- surprising -- didn't seem to be the case with many generations of diners -- from all I ever could gather --

Fried Chicken is good...not better than Claudia Sanders in Shelbyville, Kentucky.

I went there for the 1st time in September for breakfast. There were only 15-20 other diners there, and it took 25 min to take our order. After nearly an hour w/ not even our coffee, we left.

So I'll never know if the food was anything good or not. Still, this is sad, and I hope the Big House gets w/ Mama Louise to buy some of her artifacts.

Y'all may want to try this instead, only lunch now:

http://www.goodtogomacon.com/

It is good, and if you've eaten at the Cox Capitol, it was probably done by Good to Go.

I was planning my own pilgrimage to Macon and H & H was on the itinerary. I guess I'll settle for a picture of the bike in front of it.

I was lucky enough to have eaten there once a few years ago...and the best part was that we were hanging out with BlueDaddy & big Dave
Butch came in while we were there and it was awesome how he just strolled in behind the counter & made his own coffee & told them what he wanted to eat!
The food we had was good, but the memorabilia & history connected to our favorite band, the greatest in ALL the land, made it such a VERY special place.
I wholeheartedly agree with the thoughts of it being appropriate for it to take its bow with the band...and e
even more so that Mama deserves to retire & enjoy it <3

The first time I visited H&H, I remember wanting to own the juke box. It had the best music for any Juke box I had seen at the time. Its not every day where the music selection had the first mule CD.

I'll tell my only H&H story, I visited The Big House on the day Kirk was moving out, obviously before the museum part. He stopped packing or moving boxes and showed me around, talked with me, telling a few stories.

It was about lunch time and he and his gang were going to the H&H and said, follow us, so I did.

It wasn't so much about the food as the history, I wasn't disappointed with lunch.

Stopped in with my dad in 2006. It was mid morning on a very hot July day. There weren't many in there. My dad had breakfast and I had coffee. I was sure I saw Momma in the back so I finally asked the waiter if I could meet her, he very kindly said "come with me".
He waved to Momma as he took me behind the counter. She came out in full smile and grasped my hands as I told her what an honor it was to meet her.
She let me take a couple of pictures and I was thrilled.
I don't know how good the food was but I was soooo happy to have met that kind hearted woman.

My wife and I made the pilgrimage in April of 2010 for the ABB show at city aud. We went to the Big House and Rose Hill, morning after the show. We arrived in Macon late morning, the day of show and checked in and headed straight to H&H for lunch. It was crowded of course but got to meet and take pictures with Mama Louise and Red dog he was holding court at a full table). Both were very gracious. Got a pic outside under the Mushroom H&H sign. Now that it is evident that the road as far as new shows doesn't go on forever, glad we made the trip, when we did. We'll definitely go back soon for another Big House visit and more time at Rose Hill.

I enjoyed a nice lunch at the H&H during a visit to Macon a few years back. Had the fried chicken. It reminded me of my mom's. Good stuff!

All the best to Mama and the staff. Thank you for the good times!

I ate there in 2010 on my first trip (so far) to Macon.

It was a very memorable visit as:

a. I had the fried chicken (great!)

b. I got to say hello to Mama Louise and shake her hand

c. Just as I was leaving, I ran into TanDan and his wife coming in. We had never met in person, but I knew it was him from seeing his picture on the site. So I was able to go back in with them and chat while they ate. Very nice folks as you already know ...

And even though they had a previous engagment that day, TanDan took me on a quick mini tour of some of the ABB sites that were nearby.

Needless to say, it was a very good day ...

If you met TanDan - the meal, the tour - everything else was secondary!

I have eaten there twice and enjoyed both meals. Gave Mama L a hug on the first visit and told her the fried chicken was the best since my grandmother passed.

I wish her a happy retirement.

Not living in Georgia I've never been to H&H. But if you're ever in L.A. and want some authentic Southern style soul food, check out Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles, www.roscoeschickenandwaffles.com. It's the real deal! A black friend of mine turned me on to the original one 30 years ago (I'm from L.A.) but last I heard they've got three L.A. locations now. Way back then my buddy told me that his sister had gone there for breakfast every Sunday for a month and Magic Johnson was in there eating 3 out of those 4 Sundays.
