Bill Levenson has posted the new cover as his profile picture on facebook, we are real close now! It looks great, same image as before (looks sharper with a little more contrast to the picture), but the type is changed on the trunk in the top left corner. It now says (same stenciled, white paint lettering) The Allman Brothers Band The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings. Perfect cover, can't think of a better way to present this package.

Thanks Wayne, probably my favorite Allman Brothers Band album cover!

Same pic, slightly different title.

I have to say I've been skeptical of the new re-releases, but they've all been great quality so, although I think somehow I have all these tracks/shows on bootlegs and whatnot, I'm planning to get it when it comes out.

I keep wanting to go find a webpage for a chronology of the LAFE releases and remixes and repackages 'cause it's way more than I can keep track of.

The picture is the same, bu the wording on the cases was changed. "At Fillmore East" has been replaced with "The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings."

Will it be available on Pono?

That is such a cool cover! I have always liked it. Even the pics of the road crew and the serious version of the Brothers. Jim Marshall really had the right idea.

Ah yes, but it's such an iconic cover. Could you see an Allman Fillmore release without that being the cover. Yeah it great work if you can get it, but it's also easy to be a curmudgeon.

I've always been under the impression that the ABB played two nights (3/12 & 3/13), not three. I recall that that's what is printed on the original album liner notes as well. Plus, this Fillmore calendar would tend to support that. Is there some indisputable source or proof that they played three nights?

Tom Dowd spoke at length about how bad the horn trio sounded on the 11th; Galadrielle has it listed on Duaneallman.com, which is a tremendous source of info, and I'm pretty sure that several members here have posted about being there on the 11th. No doubt they played on the 11th; just no tape.

3/11 is also listed in this site's ABBbase, and I think most of the entries are supported by real documentation. My father was at one of the 3/11 shows, although of course we all know what they say about memories and that period of history.

Galadrielle was born in 1969, so she's just collected information from others. I have the highest respect for her, but she's not a qualified source. The Dowd stories are all over the place. One site says he "ran up to Duane and told him to nix the horn players", while another says Dowd played the recording back to the band later to show them how bad it sounded. That would mean it was recorded. I'll need to see a scanned ticket stub. That shouldn't be too difficult for someone to produce.

All of us suffer from false memories. It's not that people are deceitful or intentionally make things up. It's just how the human mind works - or doesn't work, as the case may be.

I personally talked to Tom Dowd about it years ago; the 11th was so bad that they taped over it, but believe what you want.

Cannot wait to hear this set!

My point is, if Tom Dowd, who had one of the best sets of ears in the music business, says it's bad......then it was probably bad. Why would we want to hear out of tune horns that don't mesh with music we love?

Curiosity is reason enough, and bad horn players on certain songs wouldn't ruin an entire show. Anyway I'm not sure how bad these guys really were: in One Way Out I thought there two different opinions. One was that they stunk, and the other was that the band wasn't that tight with them and the band needed to be at their absolute best during these shows, and loose jams with infrequent guests were not the best way to get those performances.

I agree - we have all been to bad/off shows. If the first show was off, I do not need to hear that for myself. I too will trust Tom Dowd's decision and enjoy what is there. I may wait to buy this new release on PONO once available though.
