my how this place has gone downhill

Don't apologize as you are bang on. One of the saddest parts of the ABB history is what happened to this forum.

The ABB don't need Dicky to hop on stage one last time. They just need to use his music. Imagine an ABB show without Dickey Betts instrumentals and great lyrical songs? It would not be an ABB show. They even play Blue Sky now. Could you imagine Dickey Betts singing Melissa. No me either he does not need the ABB They need his music he does not need theirs.

This website is the Elysian Fields now compared to the toxic cesspool it was in the immediate aftermath of Dickey's departure.

To say this place is at some kind of all-time low right now is just not accurate.

If anything, the saddest part is how few people come here anymore.

If no one is on then that is a low.

I didn't mean to imply that it is at it's lowest. That ship sailed long ago. There are times now where there will only be a couple of posts in a 24 hour period. There was a time when you would have to go to page 3 or more to find a thread on the same day. Now page 2 has threads that are a month old or more. Page 1 can have threads over a week old.

Look at the Top 100 posters and only a handful are still around. very sad. To imagine that we used to have Annual Awards shows for the forum and now if there are 3 members on that is a full house. Not sure how low you want it or if it is an all time low but it is sad.

I've been thinking about enrolling under a new name ... so that I can reply to my own posts!

I miss the action too. What I liked to call the Friday happy hour threads were always a kick. Like the band itself, lots of change in the cyber world.

As for Dickey, as much as we'd all love to see him play in the band again, right or wrong, that ship sailed a long time ago.

I imagine with the end of the ABB (as we know it at least) and the turmoil of this final year have soured a number of fans. It's certainly - to me - mostly to blame on the way this year has been handled. You would have thought a final year of a band would be planned well in advance. Warren and Derek say discussions among the band have been taking place for three years. You'd have thought someone in the band's management would have sat everyone down and discussed how they would have handled the final year.

From the start of the year - with first the rumor Oteil was leaving and then the dual announcement from Warren and Derek, NOT from the band itself - it has been handled like crap. Then Gregg misses Beacon shows, other shows, etc. Cryptic comments by Gregg about dates that didn't exist on the Beacon calendar. Gregg's comments about who needs Derek. Over two months to announce the rescheduled Beacon dates and the cluster f**k over announcing two NEW final shows. The possibility of most fans getting shut out.

Dickey ain't happening IMHO

And face it - the top "stickied" post on the Beacon forum is from Butch talking about Moogis. Huh?

Instead of a glorious final year of the ABB we get a load of merde. This year should have been a celebration.

That being said I'm packing for PeachFest and have tickets to the last five Beacon shows. Let us hope this band makes a glorious final stand

If Dickey shows up I will personally unfurl a banner at the show that reads: SORRY BETTYHYNES.

And we'll all fondly remember it as the Monkeys Flew From My Butt show.

Still, thanks, nothing like a Dickey Betts thread to allow us to curmudge. Always thought we should have a Dickey Betts forum.

Yep -- the brown site GB -- cyberspace schitzos
We know Rusty a little better than that tho -- have a great time at Randall's gig bro!!

But yes, activity here on the boards has wound down [more than] commensurate with the band's career -- many cool people & best to all -- Peach festival, the last outdoor gig -- enjoy it folks
