Sometimes, I admit, that I'm a bit late to the party. I have heard of these guys for the longest time but never have heard any of their material .

But I have a good friend who is a big Sirus XM listener and he has been raving about this album since he first heard it on XM and bought his own copy.

Mine just arrived this week and I can't stop playing it .

It is kind of hard to define these guys. They are definitely Alt-Country but man....they also have a hard , punkish edge to their sound that is quite compelling. And they write damn catchy songs . I am hearing traces of The Replacements, The Pogues, and The Violent Femmes in their sound, as well as a track that has an honest to goodness surf guitar line. The song that I am listening to right sounds like Steve Earle if he had been drinking buddies with Paul Westerburg as well as his mentor Townes Van Zant.

I guess I have a new favorite album. (after 3 plays in the course of this Saturday. )

Man! This is a good one IMO...

Anyone else ?

I've been a fan of the band for a few years. Check out their live album if you like this one.

The Replacements influence is helped by Tommy Stinson playing on a track or two on this most recent album.

I did not know Tommy Stinson was on this one. Guess I heard him without realizing it ...

Thanks for the advice on the live one. I'm currently on the waiting list for Too Far To Care and their best of Hit By A Train from the library. I'm ready to do some more exploring....

According to an interview with Rhett Miller that I read, the song "Most Messed Up" came from a night where he went out drinking with Tommy Stinson and thought he could out drink the old man.

lol!

Considering The Mats' renowned reputation for drinking, Rhett might have had better luck challenging Hunter S. Thompson when he was still around ....

Been listening to the Replacements lately. They sort of got by me in their hey day.

There's a big show in NY at the old Forrest Hills Tennis Stadium on 9/19. Replacements headlining with Hold Steady and Deer Tick opening. Really starting to like Hold Steady after not liking them for years. Recently the light bulb went off in my head for them. Crazy songs they have and Deer Tick is my favorite young band of the moment.

here's a Replacements cover from the 2013 Mountain Jam by Deer Tick. They're sloppy but ton's of fun. Saw them a few days after this show and been hooked ever since.

I hate to say it but Phil Lesh and Warren are playing the same venue the Sunday afterwards and this show interests me more right now. Liking the old 97s on Spotify. Will give them more of a listen
