Zakk Wylde announced that, after very careful consideration, that he'll be stepping in to fill the boots of both Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes guitar roles in the Allman Brothers Band today. He said that he's not been satisfied with the role he played previously in ABB & the criticism he received from longtime fans but that with 2 guitarists now leaving he's ready to rejoin & plot the future course of this epic band.

He stated "playing with Ozzy & replicating all the Black Sabbath tunes was an incredible challenge but doing justice to Duane Allman & the legacy of the Allman Bros is the greatest honour I've ever undertaken.I intend to blow the roof off all the future shows with Greg,Jaimoe,Butch & the boys & take it into the Stratosphere".
He further stated "I've been in contact with bassist Jason Newsted just in case Oteil intends to call it quits again with the band but I'm happy to work with either".For now Zakk is relearning all the classics of ABB including Dreams,Mountain Jam & Blue Sky but adding his own Wylde signature riffs to them.He said "Greg is a survivor like me & wanted to shake things up a bit & together we can recreate the magic of '69 all over again".Zakk went on to say "I was used to being in a single guitar band & making my own improvisations live, now I can come into my own territory & give justice to some of my improvisations of their songs.

April Fool's many months late, right. This IS a joke right!

Please God no....NO or to quote Darth Vader and Mr. Bill, Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Can't stand Mr. Shred and his one night with the ABB was beyond "out there". I'm happy he holds such regard for the ABB..but please NO!!!

P.S. and since the Allman Brothers Band is a 2 guitar band, let's bring on Steve Vai or Marty Friedman..that should work out just great to compliment Zak! LOL

Zak further states "Derek is hands down the greatest slide player ever 'notwithstanding Duane' and "Warren is the best improvisational guitarist ever to walk the earth"& these shoes are not easy to fill so I hand it to Greg in choosing me alone in changing direction in such a drastic manner. I only hope the Fans come to appreciate it over time...& I will deliver & fully intend to challenge them & the rest of the band in the only way Zak Wylde knows how!!! ".

He is only covering the "Dickey" role. Rumors persist that Jerry Douglas is covering the slide parts which makes sense as he is an ABB fan and a huge Zak fan. He will be there at least for the Beacon run.

"I'm looking forward to Whippin' Post,One Way Out & songs of that nature when I can let it all loose & I thank Greg for the Opportunity to give them a further incarnation of this historic band &my 'metal touch' in such a transitional time". I,too have been criticised for being thin, skinny & even clean, in the past in my times of transition,& I too ignored it &intend to carry thru & give the best I can to ABB,I truly hope the fans appreciate it..."

Wylde stated "I'm hoping...& expecting that Jimmy Herring & Widespread Panic will be joining us onstage at various shows &...Dickey too has expressed interest& criticism of course in this change of direction but that he'd be happy to show up for Blue Sky & Les Brers..that is if they learn to play them in the proper manner. & that I'd mediate in any disagreements w/ Butch or...Chuck Leavell said he'd be happy to come onboard for Southbound w/Zak & Jack Pearson was only too happy to spruce up the lineup onstage in shows for Melissa & Midnight Rider playing basic leads along w/Zak's improvisations"All in all it seems everything will continue to roll with ABB as they're now named.

For a second I thought you said Marty Feldman - which would make as much sense

Zak further stated that "Joe Satriani will in fact be joining ABB & Zak for select shows but 'only' if the drummer from the 'All my Friends' concert also joins them onstage. Joe wishes to clear up the rumour that "No,I am not that drummer from the Fox show..he just looks like me".

Due to a longrunning feud with Steve Vai,Vai will not be joining us onstage despite persistent rumors. Steve also stated he would not subject himself to criticism about his weight or thiness as ABB has come under such scrutiny lately." Steve said"I've dodged these weight issues for years, why would I want to drag all that up again just for the sake of a 1 off gig man".

Zak agreed & said he's looking forward to dueling guitars with Satriani especially.

Thanks for clearing all this up Betty. If I can't have Steve, Joe is the next best thing.

An aside for a moment.

I am using two different browsers to monitor this site this morning. I am seeing different posts on each site. Has anybody experienced any wierdness on this site lately.

When using Google Chrome - I have to constantly re-log in. Then my posts don't show. When I move over to the Safari (Mac) browser, I can see recent posts that I've made that do not appear in the Chrome browser.

Anybody else experiencing stuff like this?

Zakk also stated in an 'exclusive' interview early today in Relix that "Jerry Douglas will in fact be joining Zakk and the Allman Brothers onstage for some Beacon shows next year..but only if he agrees to put away that resonator which resembles a pedal steel.

Zakk also stated he felt the reason things didn't work out so well the 1st time he was in ABB was because he was too immature then, thank god for Grissom coming in. "This time I'll be taking over Warrens job of guests & helping on arrangements with Greg. It'll be more what I'm accustomed to"he stated.

In the interview he also issued a "personal challenge to Dickey Betts to join him onstage next year & that No he was not concerned about Dickeys high volume rumours as he's just purchased 6 new Marshall stacks & that Greg has been working closely with Dupont patenting specially made sound-proof plexi just for that eventuality. Dualing guitars with Dickey is something I've dreamed about for years & I don't want volume to be an issue."

Zakks says he's been facing an incredible amount of blowback from his legions of Black Label Society fans since making his 1st announcement but is convinced he'll eventually be able to "gradually bring these fans into the ABB fold once he begins writing the new tunes with Greg Allman & looks forward to this next phase of my life".

Doesn't whatever humor there was in this kind of get lost by going on and on with it?

No offense intended but it is not particularly clever.

Jerry D is working three bands now. I'm guessing an ABB shell band is not in the cards.
