I was going to title this thread "Beatles covers better than the original", but I didn't want to start a war. I love the Beatles, but I've heard some covers that I enjoy more than the original. Mine are listed below. If you have any to add, please do so I can check them out.

With a little help from my friends - Joe Cocker
Eleanor Rigby - Aretha Franklin
Dear Prudence - Jerry Garcia (not better but amazing)
Imagine - Chris Cornell (I know this is Lennon but same purpose)

Off the top of my head:

She's a Woman - Jeff Beck
Got to Get You Into my Life - Earth, Wind and Fire
Day Tripper - Cheap Trick

Day Tripper - Jimi Hendrix
We Can Work It Out - Stevie Wonder
Here Comes the Sun - Nina Simone
Something - Joe Cocker
Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett
And this is cheating, but The Sounds of Science (Beastie Boys) includes enough of a sample from The End that I consider it sort of a cover.

(slaps self over face) Oh, hell yeah! How'd I forget that one!
This trumps any further possibilities!

Fool On The Hill by Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66..always loved that.
Here Comes The Sun by Nina Simone (loved when they used it in the soundtrack of the 1993 film "Point Of No Return" the La Femme Nakita American remake with Bridget Fonda..really set the tone and emotion of a certain scene.)
Got To Get You Into My Life-Earth Wind And Fire--loved when they performed it in the otherwise crappy film Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Come Together--Aerosmith also in the crappy film Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band..but Steven Tyler & co. tore the sh** out of this!!
With A Little Help From My Friends-Joe Cocker

I really enjoyed Soulive's Beatles cover album, Rubber Soulive. Lots of interesting renditions of Beatles classics in a funk/jazz style.

Of all the Beatles covers they do, I think Get Back and Come Together are probably my favorites. They also do a killer I Want You (She's So Heavy).

I can't believe I'm going to mention this on a ABB web-site, but what the hell I've been around here long enough..... so here goes.

But I remember seeing/hearing Richie Sambora & Jon Bon Jovi do a stand-up job on Here Comes the Sun live on TV. I think it was on a MTV/VH1 awards show soon after George's death, and they had a string quartet or trio with them. I remember having a similar feeling to watching an NCAA basketball tournament game when the clock goes under a minute with a tie score and your team has an inbound pass, and you know there is potential for a big win or a total trainwreck disaster and it is going to happen in the next 1 minute . I was quite pleasantly surprised they pulled off the former, as I recall.

And if memory doesn't serve on how it actually sounded, I'm sure they looked good trying.

If I get an epic fail on the above, then permit me a mulligan and go with a Jeff Beck rendition of something or another. Or a Jimmy Herring Band take on Jeff Beck's version of something or another by the Batles.....

Joe Cocker's "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" crushes the opposition, for me, but the Mule's "She Said, She Said" does come close.

I get a kick out of Wes Montgomery's "Eleanor Rigby" but even more when Tommy Bolin quotes Wes playing that song.

Soul Stew Revival (or early TTB?) did a great Bathroom Window at their last Fox NYE show in Atlanta. Got a recording somewhere.

The soundtrack to the movie I Am Sam is all Beatles covers (highly recommended but not sure if it's available in the states) and I like them all, but Steve Earle does an excellent I'm Looking Through You.
