While the Allman Brothers Band are closing out their epic American story at the Beacon Theatre this week, the monstrous shadow left by the absence of Dickey Betts cannot be denied. Personal issues may have separated Betts from his bandmates, but the striking reality holds that Dickey Betts is an Allman Brother. He is an icon, a cornerstone of American rock music. His monumental compositions and ingenious guitar work not only shaped the conceptual direction of the The Allman Brothers Band through the years, but also moved a generation of listeners and offered anthems that will ring in our hearts forever. Emotions on social media are running very high, particularly on the Facebook based Dickey Betts Fans page. There are a substantial group of dedicated fans who feel very strongly about this weeks performances without Betts. However, we may also use this time to step back, gain perspective and celebrate our good fortune for we have been blessed with the opportunity to witness one of the greatest musicians of our time. Remember always...We love you Dickey Betts!

The right thing would have been to invite him to do a song or two

The comment about a hunting trip added insult to injury imo.

At least we know what Warren and Derek think was the right thing to do.

Maybe Gregg could have made one of his strategic exits from the stage while Dickey was playing!

WOW what a post ! ... Thanks so much Terry for putting your thoughts and feelings on "paper" internet . I have been a loyal DB fan for over 40 years, as well as an ABB fan lover too. Their break up was " to ME " unimaginable, how in the world could they continue yet once again without a major component on center stage the way we've always seen them.. Well, it happened and they ALL recovered. I think the fans maybe had a harder time with the breakup. I know I did. I felt resentment that really had no direction and I had no reason to feel so personal about it . But, I did, that's how much their music , their direction, their devotion to the music, their strength to go on in the face of such horrific and devastating loses was proof to me that their "Brotherhood" was for real. Of course as time as moved on and we have all aged and matured .. I am in my 60's and I am still talking about their music... POWERFUL stuff , for real.

I learned after the 40th ..that their will never be a reunion with all the original founding members... sad really sad... When you have a deep love and it turns bad... that's it.. Leaves a bad taste and you don't wanna go there again... It's how I imagine they all feel.. so we have the music.. and I promise you when I am in my 80's or older if I get there I will still be listening to all my favorites from the ABB and DB... it's etched on my heart deeply , like my first love.

Thanks to The Allman Brothers Band / Dickey Betts, Gregg Allman , Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, Jai Jai Johnson, and Duane ALLMAN.. and to all who play with the ABB and DB..

Take a Long Well Deserved BOW>>>> XXXXX OOOOO XXXXXX
