Al Sharpton just had a press conference, he and his National Action Network are marching to Washington, DC on December 13 to protest the death of a man named Eric Garner who NYPD police were trying arrest, but he was resistant. He was selling cigarettes. One officer put him in a take down choke hold which ultimately led to his death, because he had asthma, yelled 11 times that he could not breathe while they tried to subdue him. A Grand Jury found the officer innocent in his death.

Al Sharpton met with Governor Cuomo this evening to discuss this death of another black man

http://news.yahoo.com/u-launch-civil-rights-probe-york-chokehold-death-0056 22785.html

There are videos on You Tube. Officer Pantoleo says he used a take down move taught at the Police Academy, not a chokehold to take him down. The videos look like a lot of effort was made in trying to put him on the ground, to put the flexi-cuffs on him, but we were not there, so it is hard to judge. Mr. Garner could not breathe, but it looks like he kept struggling, did they hear him?

People need to stop resisting arrest because it just escalates police activities. Even if they are wrong, they are the ones in charge at the scene. People have to understand that.

Update 12.5.14 There have been other shootings in NYC and I was going to just put them all up under this one heading and expand it to NYPD shootings, but the circumstances are different and for that reason I will do separate threads for them. People are trying to combine all the deceased into one theme of white cop/dead black men because of race but that is not the case. Eric Garner's death was accidental, but the questions of whether a chokehold should have been used at all remain. All of the shootings are galvanizing the city and the nation into a national cry of stop killing black men.

For those who want to follow ALL the protest marches here are some of the twitter hashtags that have video footages.

The major news networks, CNN, WPIX have also had very good coverages.

12.20.14 - This thread will include info. on the two police officers murdered today because the shooter cited the Garner case in his social media posts as the reasons WHY he came her to deliberately kill them. Therefore it is related.

Today people think filling out online petitions and tweeting protest statements will actually initiate change.

I'm all for a good protest march but sincerely doubt there will be many participants.

I don't understand the need for another protest because a death results from fighting with the police. Shouldn't people realize that can lead to really bad things happening?

Cooperate with the police. There are plenty of lawyers available to do the fighting for you, plus the added benefit of remaining above ground.

Hard to lawyer up when you're dead. Prolly even harder when you're dead and poor.
When someone says a bunch times they can't breathe, when does law enforcement cooperate? Nothing more military "surplus" won't take care off.
The revolution will be televised....

OK, have it your way. If a cop bothers you just streetfight him.

Good luck. Hope that response works out.

Rev Al has to keep the racism mantra going; he need the money.

In the Ferguson and Staten Island matters race had nothing to do with it.

Four simple words (which you never hear from the Al Sharpton types) would have saved two lives: Obey Police Officer's Orders.

Please get the basic terms of civics correct in order to have a discussion on the issues. A grand jury does not find people guilty or innocent. They are convened by the prosecutor's office to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to a trial. A grand jury votes to bring a Bill of Indictment or No Bill. The Staten Island GJ voted not to indict the police officer.

There is no legal proceeding in which a defendant is determined to be Innocent. In a trial, the verdict is Guilty or Not Guilty.

Tim Poole, the reporter who covered Occupy Wall Street and it's now legendary 22 hour raid on Zuccotti Park, and the aftermath down at the courthouse, is still out there as the reporter on the scene. Footage from last night's protests from Times Square to Rockefeller Plaza (50 Street ad 6 Avenue).

I think there are more protests this evening.

The protests regarding Eric Garner's death continued in NYC last night but were expanded. There was one in downtown Manhattan that went across the Brooklyn Bridge where they carried 20 cardboard boxes with names of people killed by police over the years. They then had a time of silence where people laid down in the street among the coffins (they called this a die-in) to emphasize what happened. The police did not like like it and 20 protesters who carried and laid down near the coffins were arrested once they got up and began having a sit in and were singing and refused to get up and disperse.

It wasn't much better for the protesters in Union Square, or further north in Times Square, or at 50th and 6 Avenue or along the West Side Highway.

More than 200 people were arrested.

It seems that the protesters are mobilizing for a 'shut it down moment' in NYC. If they can shut it down with protests, they feel they will accomplish something. The protesters marched thru the streets among traffic. In the old days, roads would be cordoned off and people would march on the streets without cars being on it.

The NYPD is going to send 20,000 policemen to a three day re-training.

Eric Garner's death has been a flashpoint for NYC. In November Akai Gurley was killed when a police officer (a housing cop - in New York City cops get assigned either to Transit, Housing or City - the city cops can rise to detective status, they have all the different divisions including narcotics etc, it is the most coveted division). The housing police officer was going up the stairs in a housing project, the light was out in the stairwell, so he had his flashlight and his gun drawn as he went up the stairs. His gun went off and richocetted off a wall and hit a man named Akai Gurley, who later died from the gunshot wound. Gurley was not armed.

TONIGHT, there will be a meeting at the Brown Memorial Baptist Church at 484 Washington Avenue in Brooklyn (718) 638-6121. Akai's Mother will be there, AND Mrs. Garner will be there also to support her. This is a Memorial Service for Akai Gurley.

The other protests in New York City will continue also. People have reached the point they are sick of others being killed. Anderson Cooper had an amazing show last night about Eric Garner's death with special guests who explained what happened and how the chokeholds are performed and how they caused his death. Maybe we should ask what gives a police officer the right to use a procedure on someone that can result in their death if they are not armed. In Mr. Garner's case his oxygen was cut off, which caused the cardiac arrest which led to his death.

There were enough officers on the scene, why couldn't they just surround him and have 3 of them cuff him from behind?

The EMT did nothing but feel for a carotid artery pulse. Since it was either not normal, or not there, an oxygen mask should have been administered to him, it wasn't. If he did not die, he would have had permanent brain damage.

Beyond the police tactics are the protester tactics, walking thru oncoming traffic is not safe and is counter productive.

I have seen tapes of Police brutality; this was not one. Yeah; if it was a chokehold he shouldn't have use it. But it ain't easy to subdue a 400 lb man resisting arrest. And if you can say "I can't breathe" you can breathe. Anyone trained in CPR knows not to initiate action if someone can speak. There was a very unfortunate outcome here - the Cop should be cited for using a chokehold internally - but he didn't kill Garner. He was a medical disaster waiting to happen.

It was a chokehold based on a demonstration I saw in an interview Scott Pelley of CBS did, as well as interviews CNN staffers working with Anderson Cooper did; but from those interviews the mechanics of what was done are the same as what PO Panteleo did, including the pressing on the windpipe in the front of the neck and holding the head down on the ground once he was taken down. Granted a 350 lb man has health issues. It is true you do not do CPR on someone who is conscious and the EMT did not use a sthethoscope when he was unresponsive to be able to determine if he was unconscious or if he had just fainted. I don't think the cop intended to kill him, because it looked like the other officers just did what is routinely done once someone is taken down and Pantoleo took his own hands off Garner once he was down. They were working as a team.

My only concern was that there were enough officers present, was a take down necessary, Garner was standing against a store window, still couldn't they have surrounded him from the front, cuffed him that way, they could always put a bag over his head and he would not have been able to further resist. Back the police car up on the sidewalk, put him in and it's a done deal.

The takedown chokehold cuts off oxygen from the windpipe and chest as well as blood flow to the brain from the carotid arteries on the sides of the neck. I think it should only be used in serious cases because accidental death can result from it. AND the public should learn that if a police officer wants to arrest you, YOU have to comply or you will be beaten, abused and STLL arrested anyway. COMPLY, you can always sue them later if necessary.

The family is suing the officer who performed the take down maneuver and the city for seventy five million dollars.

Chrissy Orta, wife of Ramsey Orta, the man who shot the video of the Garner takedown, says they are being targeted by police. She herself was arrested outside a Bay Street convenience store for allegedly punching a woman. Her husband was arrested last weekend on a weapons charge, she says he was set up. It’s not just his video, he is an eyewitness to what police did.

UN human rights experts earlier expressed "legitimate concerns" about US grand juries failing to charge the two policemen involved in the deaths of Mr Garner and Mr Brown.

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2014/12/nypd-arrests-200-eric-ga rner-protests.php

Remarks: The case has become a National issue, even the United Nations is concerned. What is very wrong is that there are a group of people who are using Eric Garner's death for their own purposes, which is world anarchy. The Occupy Wall Street kids are using this to merge their movement with the black people who believe they have been disenfranchised. The merger of these groups can create revolution. Once they shut down cities, governments, what will they put in it's place?

Veteran Fox News Reporter Takes Own Life?

Veteran Fox News correspondent Dominic Di-Natale, who recently reported on the riots in Ferguson, Mo., has been found dead of an apparent suicide. Officials discovered Di-Natale’s body Wednesday in Jefferson County, Co., where the international reporter owned property. The coroner said that he took his own life.

“He was an esteemed journalist and an integral part of our news coverage throughout the Middle East.” He also reported on the 2011 raid that killed Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

REMARKS: Foul play?

The protests have continued nightly in NYC, most recently there was a demonstration where the protesters chanted "what do we want? Dead Cops" "When do we want it" "Now".

Anarchy's a coming.

Additionally NYPD are fed up and are protesting Mayor DeBlasio, they are running some protest marches of their own, and have a petition where they have signed asking if they are killed that DeBlasio does not attend their funeral.

More later.

We're not going to invade Iran, we will use them to heat up the sectarian war in Iraq, then blame the al Qaida/Isis fighters for murdering Shiites, the Shiites will end up striking Tel Aviv and we'll all feel like we're watching something that's a cross between the Twilight Zone and the A-Team.
