How will the welfare state survive if the payers flee?

quote:
Taxpayers Fleeing Democrat-Run States for Republican Ones

In 2013, more than 200,000 people on net fled states with Democrat governors for ones run by Republicans, according to an analysis of newly released IRS data by Americans for Tax Reform.

"People move away from high tax states to low tax states. Every tax refugee is sending a powerful message to politicians," said ATR President Grover Norquist. "They are voting with their feet. Leaders in Texas and Florida are listening. New York and California are not."

That year, Democrat-run states lost a net 226,763 taxpayers, bringing with them nearly $15.7 billion in adjusted gross income (AGI). That same year, states with Republican governors gained nearly 220,000 new taxpayers, who brought more than $14.1 billion in AGI with them.

Only one-third of states with Democrat governors gained taxpayers, compared to three-fifths of states with Republican governors.

Top 5 loser states for Democrat governors in 2013:

New York (114,929 people with $5.7 billion in AGI)

Illinois (68,943 people with $3.8 billion in AGI)

California (47,458 people with 3.8 billion in AGI)

Connecticut (14,453 people with $1.8 billion in AGI)

Massachusetts (11,915 people with $1 billion in AGI)

Top 5 winner states for Republican governors in 2013:

Texas (152,912 people with $6 billion in AGI)

Florida (74,094 people with 8.3 billion in AGI)

South Carolina (29,176 people with 1.6 billion in AGI)

North Carolina (26,207 people with $1.5 billion in AGI)

Arizona (16,549 people with $1.5 billion in AGI)

The single largest net migration from one state to another took place between New York and Florida (17,355 people).

It is more like people fleeing the excessive taxation, over regulation, corruption and utter mismanagement of the Cities and States run by the Democrats.

Housing is much more affordable in the States where people are moving to and the cost of living is significantly lower.

People are tired of the crime in the Cities run by the Democrats. A notable example is Charleston, SC. When the Church tragedy occurred, perpetrated by someone with substantial mental health issues, the locals did not riot, loot and burn their city down. They came together to pray and support the Churches members peacefully. Outside agitators were shunned.

It is a quality of life matter.

it still doesn't matter

Dear Diary: June 1st:
Just moved to Texas! Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place! It is beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an Air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing the lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least, it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th:
Fell asleep by the community pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body). Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ole sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:
I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The car now smells like Kibbles and ****s. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat. Good ole Mr. Sun strikes again.

July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th:
Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and I can't even go inside. Lomita is the lucky one. Why did I ever come here?

Aug. 4th:
It's 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid state.

Aug. 8th:
If another wise a** cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

Aug. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when sat on the seats in the car, I thought my ass was on fire. My skin melted to the seat. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass . . . Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

Aug 10th:
The weather report might as well be a da*n recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do **** for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this damn state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700 worth of cactus will just dry up and blow over. Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat.

Aug. 14th:
Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus are dead. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The installer came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for you today?" My sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Texas. What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?? Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.

It's more like people moving from expensive housing markets (brought on by booming economies) to states where housing is cheap because most people don't want to live there. I have a friend who moved from the San Francisco Bay area to Texas because he could sell his small house in California and afford to buy 2 houses in Texas and live off the rent of the smaller house. He hates Texas, but he would rather be able to live in Texas without working than work 50 hours a week to live in California. The only reason he moved is affordable housing. Taxation, crime or other factors were never part of the equation. I have a second friend who moved from Texas to California. He makes a ton of money and couldn't wait to get out of Texas. Fact is, people with money like living in places like California. People who can't afford to live in good places settle for less desirable places like Texas.

Have you ever been to Texas? I would suggest a trip to Houston or Dallas to see first hand the signs of immense wealth everywhere you look.

I have never heard of anyone relocating from one state to another because of the predominant party in the state government. I doubt very much that it happens to any significant extent.

I doubt it, too. Likely as not, they are fleeing policies and the resulting negative impacts on their lives.

It's even more likely that folks move because of family reasons, job related reasons, retirement, a change in climate, health reasons, education, etc. It is only in forums like this where there is a policy or political reason behind everything that happens in life.

Exactly right.

The flight is from the excessive taxation, over regulation, corruption, crime and utter mismanagement of the Cities and States run by the Democrats.

Not because of the Democrat politicians but because of their policies and failures.

Or maybe they are moving to red states to get all the federal government handouts, since those states seem to get most of it. Or to that red state of Alaska, which is the only real socialist state in the union.
