On top of decades of drug use, living on the road and cigarets, Gregg is a serious alcoholic and has hep C as well as having had his liver replaced a few years back ('09?). He also apparently continued to succumb to his alcoholism post liver replacement.

Thoughts and prayers for you Gregg. We're all pulling for you.

Could just be too many days on the road for him this past year. He's got some hard miles on him and he's not a kid any more.

Get well Bro.

If I remember right, either AP's book or one of his posts here, he mentioned the band had to have a talk with Gregg re: his drinking in December 2010

Another one of these threads - theories, speculation, attempting to connect dots, & conjecture. How many of us are on the inside with direct knowledge...probably very very few.

Best wishes to Gregg, his family, and inner circle for a speedy recovery.

I have backed off on being a Hep C Awareness Advocate, but counsel people if they need or ask. I am blessed to have made the cure, but endured the old TX to do so. The newer meds are more effective and less medieval torture. Even with the new meds, not everyone responds to TX. Many who get liver transplants still have Hep C. So this has always been a worry for me re Gregg. So I pray it is unrelated to all that that he is having issues. But the Mayo Clinic is where he had the transplant, and one does not go there for a bad flu. So I sense this is time for all us to rally in whatever we believe in, prayer, good energy, healing vibes, etc, etc. I sense Gregg is truly in a fight. To describe medical situations as "serious" means they are absolutely "serious". It is a definition medical term, not an opinion. I pray to Creator. Don't care if he ever plays again.

No info from Devon about what is wrong with Gregg in this post from Devon Allman on FB:
"Many friends and fans have hit me with warm wishes for a speedy recovery for my Dad. This man is a TANK. He is my hero. He will come back & be stronger than ever to deliver his soul to your ears & hearts. Thank you for loving our family. Get well soon Pop, I love you. DA"

He had hep C and liver cancer, endured a liver transplant, lung and heart issues soon followed. It is pretty amazing he made the lifestyle changes that he did to enable him to get to this point.

I sure hope this upcoming album is not his swan song. Hope he can come back from what hit him, he is a medically complex case and sometimes those transplant drugs don't work/stop working/cause other problems. (I work as an RN). And he might well go to Mayo for a 'bad flu' as most regular hospitals are not equipped to monitor and treat all the conditions his conditions could be in.

I am hoping at some point Alan Paul will shed a little light on the darkness.

send healing vibes!!!

I found this FB post - unfortunately I can't corroborate with another source...

"This is seriously bad news. Gregg has been fighting serious health issues for several years, along with life threatening addictions.
Including:
He was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2007—which he attributed to a dirty tattoo needle. By the next year, they had discovered three tumors within his liver, and he was recommended to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville by a Savannah doctor for a liver transplant. He went on a waiting list and after five months, he underwent a successful liver transplant in 2010.
In 2011, he had to cancel his European Tour due to an upper respiratory condition. This infection led to lung surgery later that year. He went to rehab in 2012 for addiction following his medical treatments.
The Allman Brothers’ Band dissolved in 2015, but Gregg kept busy performing music with a group of his friends in a new band and they released a live album; “Back to Macon, GA” later that year.
His health problems have remained; and he now also has “Atrial Fibrillation”. As a result, he has attempted to grow healthier, switching to a gluten-free vegan diet, and a lighter schedule at the advisory of his doctors who have warned that too many performances might amplify his conditions.
It looks like things have gone south."

IfI find more I'll post it...

Which facebook group or page did you read that on? He has A-Fib but a lot of people do and sometimes it's from heart valve surgery, and other times it's from high blood pressure, or it's just genetic.

Here's to Gregg getting some rest, and healing.

All these issues have been previous reported:

hepatitis C in 2007
liver transplant in 2010.
In 2011, upper respiratory condition/pneumonia. This infection led to lung surgery later that year.
He went to rehab in 2012 for addiction following his medical treatments.
Somewhere in there he had hernia surgery and was hospitalized with A-fib.

In many of his recent pics it seems he has something bulky under his t-shirt which could be
either a back support or a belly band to help out after the hernia surgery. I've always been curious about that.

One can only speculate how many medications he's on and how easy it is for a side effect to have a major effect.

Hopefully he will bounce back.
Send healing vibes!!!

he has always appreciated those cards, letters and well wishes from fans!!

Please, let's not deteriorate into unsubstantiated conjecture here. How about keeping it to some positive well wishes out to Mr. Allman. Period.

Gregg, I either hope you read these messages or someone passes them onto you. You need to rest up now until the New Year, concentrate on getting your health back to normal and maybe sorting out the finishing touches to the new record. We all want you around for a few more years yet Bro. Here's to some much needed healing vibes.

Keep in mind that Greg is taking anti rejection medication for the liver transplant. That med can weeken the overall immune system. Give Greg's medical history and life style history it could be anything or nothing. Also remember the guys are getting older and with age comes age related health issues. Just keep a good thought for a brother.
