Hi All,
The DJ on Sirius JamOn the other day was saying things like "if there is any news on ABB reunion shows, we will be the first with dates, etc." Strongly hinting at talks going on.

Anyone know anything about discussions?
Thanks!

He's high and is making things up.

warren has new album coming out and long tour into next year and derek has no desire. as i've said before, only way it happens is if gregg agree's to do a new album and that puts it into late 2018 or 19.....if gregg stays healthy enough and currently he can't finish his own tours.

If that one line is all he said, it doesn't come across to me that he is hinting at anything, just saying if it happens, we'll get you the information.

Either way, DJ's and people who talk about music professionally will run with internet rumors like they are fact. The recent Van Halen rumors were reported as fact in many places without anything solid coming out from anyone.

I agree that the idea of a reunion is extremely far-fetched. And I think that going forward Gregg’s health may always be a huge question mark. But just for the sake of argument…let’s assume that Gregg gets healthy enough to do a tour and that there was a desire by some members to do some sort of reunion. If that was the case, then I don’t think the decision to tour (or at least do a few shows/festivals) should be dependent upon whether or not Derek/Warren want to do it. No offense to either of them, but if they have moved on and have no desire to participate, then I’m sure that there would be plenty of other competent guitarists out there who would be eager to have a shot at touring with the ABB. Jack Pearson and Audley Freed come to mind, but I’m sure there are plenty of others. Now don’t get me wrong…would a lineup that includes Derek/Warren be ideal? Of course. Would any other pair of guitarists on the planet be up to the task of filling their shoes and providing the same level of guitar heroics that they can? Probably not. But could the ABB still put on some good, entertaining shows without them? I think so.

My dream (farfetched as it is) : Gregg and Dickey in good enough shape to play and sing well. A lineup that includes Butch, Jaimoe, Marc, Otiel, Chuck, Tom Doucette, Dickey, Gregg, and some combo of Warren/ Derek or Warren/Jack. If Davis, Evans, Coltrane, and Adderly can fit on one stage so can these guys. Like the early 90's three sets. Electric/Acoustic/Electric. Strategic breaks built in for the older guys. For example the first set could end with something where Dickey could walk off early such as Desdemona or Stand Back. The acoustic would always start with something like Chuck solo piano on Rain or the young guitarists on Old Friend etc. The older guys come out for things like GDTRFB Midnight Rider etc. It was nice to end those sets with Dickey getting after it on acoustic slide by him self and then Warren came out for some solo electric slide. Now it could be 2 electric slide players for a few minutes and then the rest of the band comes out. It would be interesting to hear some songs with a 3rd guitar on acoustic like the studio Blue Sky. For variety you could have IMOER Fillmore like or WTWCTODG like. Some nights Mellissa is acoustic, some nights electric. Of course I'll probably hit the lottery first........

If Dickey and Gregg can get together with the core support, you don't need Derek or Warren to make it happen IMO.

It would need to be a limited set of dates and like MR suggests, a set list designed to suit the strength of the group. Jaimoe has taken breaks for years, so they already get the need to accommodate ins and outs during a show.

That said, I would be fine if the ABB sticks with 10/28/14 as the end date.

If they reunite one of the guitarists will be Jack Pearson that's for sure.

No idea if Betts will join or not? Derek has no desire to rejoin the ABB and according to an interview I listened to he's burnt out from playing the music of the ABB.

Unless it is just a small tour, I doubt it will be Jack. He doesn't do a whole lot of traveling outside of driving range from Nashville due to his ear problems.

It would have to be like 2000 with only Gregg on vocals. A lot of instrumentals. I personally like that tour although opinions vary. Lots of extended Liz Reed and Mtn Jam.

jonathan Schwartz was a pretty amazing dj. he could be heard on wnew am talking about Sinatra then switch over to wnew fm and talk rock. I first heard the bros on wnew fm in 1970 when idlewild south was released and they played revival. been hooked since.

"Late 2018"....Different perspective, you mean almost 50 years after the band was formed?

I don't think this thread subject is a serious one, but, in just my humble opinion:

if Derek legitimately got through to Dickey and invited him to come onstage at the recent Sunshine Festival, in more or less Dickey's home town and Dickey did not show up, I think that says a lot about where Dickey is these days.

Again, just my opinion, not based on anything.

Along as Gregg is healthy enough to do it, a reunion is going to happen. There is no way Mr.Betts will join them though, especially with Butch still in the band. The guitar players would be Jack and warren, Butch even said that in a very recent interview.
I would absolutely go to another show to watch them. If if did happen they need to write at least 3 new songs to play because the setlists got very stale .

Gregg just needs to join Les Brers. Gregg on B3 and vocals, Bruce Katz on piano. No Warren, Derek or Dickie, but that's unlikely to happen anyway.

I'm just not sure Gregg could keep up with those guys. They played the ABB better than the ABB did for the last 10 years.

Tours? New songs? Albums?

This is comedy. Gregg can't even do his own tour.

Translation of an ABB Tour = Multiple Nights at The Beacon.

New songs = Gregg has been real busy working on those with Warren. Any minute now.

Albums = Selling Instant Live recordings from any show.

The only reason that Gregg, Jaimoe and Butch would do a Reunion show would be money. Pretty much the same reason that they did the last few years.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------
And it's the only reason I go to work everyday
Gregg doesn't need the money from touring... Jaimoe and Butch, I imagine, like having the money from touring. They are all working musicians. Just like I'm a working stiff. As long as they can do it, with quality, I hope they keep on playing.
I'd really like to see Chuck Leavell in the mix if they do "reunite". Maybe adding Chuck would be enough to attract Derek back into the fold.
I do agree with all of your other statements. A tour would be brief and geographically NE centric!!

I agree with a lot of this.

I could care less about "new songs", or even a new album.

However, I agree that towards the end in the last few years, the Allmans did get stale with how they could have played any number of old songs but played pretty much the same setlists and random covers.

I don't see Betts joining them mainly since Butch and he don't get along, and Dickey seems to enjoy being basically retired. I wonder if he goes out and plays golf any?

Who was the DJ? Warren's wife? Sometimes she DJs that Sirius station or did in the past.
