Saw the Drive By Truckers tonight in Chicago - they were awesome as usual. At one point in the show, Patterson Hood mentioned Butch Trucks - said he was a great drummer and was badass enough to play drums for the Allman Brothers.......

Then they played Let There Be Rock from Southern Rock Opera. Where they usually say "And I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd but I sure saw Molly Hatchet with .38 Special and the Johnny Van Zant Band"

instead they said with the Allman Brothers Band.....

It was pretty cool.

They ended with Hell No I Ain't Happy and Rockin' in the Free World........... Great show..... a lot of people were cheering when he mentioned Butch and the Allmans....

I made a quick road trip to Montreal on Tuesday and donít regret a minute of it

Best Truckers show Iíve ever seen. They mixed in a lot of the new record American Band, which sounded very good. Iíll be picking that one up soon. Apparently it had been 9 years since they last played in Montreal, they clearly made up for it last night

I liked at the end of the show Pattison Hood commented on how encores usually work. The band leaves the stage you guys scream and make a bunch of noise and we come back out for a song or two, well thatís just BS, weíre gonna keep on going until the curfew. They just continued blasting through, finishing up with an incredible version of the old Jim Carrol tune People who Died with two of the roadies joining in on guitar

I was also at the Montrťal concert. Awesome night! Patterson referenced The Replacements in Let There Be Rock .... I'm a huge Mats fan .... I can't tell you how happy that made me feel. I was expecting Rockin' In The Free World at the end .... I was very pleased that they played People Who Died, I always loved that song ... I saw Jim at The Montrťal Forum in 1982, he was opening for the J Geils Band .... another memorable night.

I saw them two weeks ago at the Ryman in Nashville and have seen them a half dozen times in the last 15 months in places like Fort Lauderdale, Austin and Dallas. I was supposed to go to Seattle tomorrow to hang out for a couple of days but cancelled my trip due to the Northeaster coming up so I will see them on Saturday here in NYC.

I love this band and really have never seen them put on a bad show. A lot of it has to do with the dynamics between Cooley and Patterson. At the Ryman, they did the same thing inserting the Allmans in Let There Be Rock. Expecting People Who Died at Webster Hall given that it is close to the area that Jim Carroll wrote about in the song. By the way, if anyone is not familiar with Catholic Girl which is the first Carroll album, seek it out as it is a great album

You mean Catholic boy.
For Catholic Girl check out Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage.

Jim's books are also great.

Very enjoyable and rocking show by the DBT's at a packed Webster Hall last night here in NYC. I knew it would be good, but was even better than expected.
