and what will the singer in Santa Baby do in return for all those gifts???

If someone analyzed the lyrics of pop/rock songs and eliminated the ones with potentially offensive sexual or drug references, radio would consist of almost entirely instrumental music

Ban em all!

Frosty the Snowman - coke pusher.

Deck the Halls - encourages crossdressing (don we now . . .)

Come All Ye Faithful - promotes orgasms in church..

Away in a Manger - encourages homeless people to give birth without seeking adequate medical care.

Oh Little Town of Bethlehem - controversial, Judeo-Christian anthem encroaching on the cultural autonomy of a town in Palestine.

What Child is This - advocates feeding saturated fats to children (haste haste to bring him lard)

Little Drummer Boy - excludes string and horn players.

Carol of the Bells - creepy, sounds like the Exorcist theme.

I gather from the comments that few of you read the NPR article, but rather commented on the headline. Seems (from the article) that the overwhelming response was to keep the song and that you don't mess with X-mas songs.

So I guess if a song is sexist, misogynist, racist, etc it's fine, as long as it's an X-mas song? Personally, I'm more offended by songs like Neil Young's a"Down By the River" or "Hey Joe" or Spooky Tooth's "You Broke My Heart, so I Busted Your Jaw" but then again I'm funny that way.

For me it is about the banning. I am flat out against banning of songs, books, or art. You probably don't want those songs banned either. Just because I'm against banning songs or books doesn't mean I am fine with them.

This next statement is just my impression of the media world we are in

We live in this social media PC culture where some people just exist to be outraged, perpetually offended, and so easily get their feelings hurt by miniscule trival matters that they are forever crushed. Give me a break. Folks need to toughin up a bit.

Yeah, my guess is that this woman named her child, (Ab-City) for the attention, then, when it came her way....she pissed and moaned

Be careful what you wish for.

Agreed. Folks also need to stop buying into this super sensitivity stuff....A woman at the Grocery store I know in passing wished me a "Merry X-Mas" the other day....then proceeded to apologize...wtf?

Great post. Yes, I don't advocate banning at all, but I just choose not to listen, not to purchase, change the channel, etc. I am also against censoring songs on the radio--either play them the way they were originally done or choose not to play them. But the question becomes this: Did the radio station BAN the song, or choose not to play it? And is there a difference and if so, what is it?

What possible reason might they have for "Choosing" not to play it that has zero to do with someone's "feelings"?

Nothing has been banned folks. A few radio companies made a business decision, nothing more, nothing less. No different than firing an employee that puts your business at financial risk. When it comes to business, risks can and should be eliminated. As for whether the public is too sensitive about it? I bet everyone reading this is over-sensitive about something silly.

White Christmas: Obviously racist

Do They Know it's Christmas: Obviously antisemitic

The Chanukah Song: Obviously against Christmas

Jot to the World: Promotes prejudice against people living in a different universe

The 12 Days of Christmas: Because apparently there are not 13

The Chipmunk Song: Why didn't squirrels get one?

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer: Police are trying to press charges against grandpa

I Saw Mommy Kissing Sana Claus: Promotes infidelity

Oh Come All Ye Faithful: Everyone gets laid on Christmas

Here Comes Santa Claus: Look out Mrs. Claus!
