Regarding the Allman Brothers at Las Cruces, New Mexico
October 6, 1971
From Rolling Stone:
When the band finally files on stage and Duane kicks off "Statesboro Blues" to a scattering of applause, the principal revelation of the occasion is that Greg Allman is not, after all, a stone catatonic, as he appears to be everywhere except in front of a microphone. His voice rises and swoops, circles and jerks the old blues staple to frenzied, hair-raising climax that's explicitly sexual enough to be rated "X". The usual contingent of snowbirds and total-loss farmers, massed ten-deep in front of the towering amps, howl their pleasure - "Boogie my mind, mother******s!" a pudgy cockatoo in head-shop plumage screeches as the band runs through its more or less standard repertoire: "Elizabeth Reed," "Please Call Home," "You Don't Love Me," "Stormy Monday," "It's Not My Cross to Bear," "Dreams," and "Hot 'Lanta."

What is interesting here is the author mentioning that the band performed "Please Call Home" as part of their show that night. Can anyone verify this. If they did sometimes do this song while Duane was still alive does anyone have a copy of it. If any one does have a live version and would be interested in trading or doing a BnP please contact me at:

Marion,

There's no tape circulating from this date (as of today!)

I was very interested to see that alleged setlist: besides Please Call Home, there's also INMCTB??? From what I recall, this one was pretty much in retirement by early '71 (let alone October) though, as they seemed to have broken Dreams out again by September, I suppose anything's possible!!

I found this on the web posted by another Duane Fan.

Several years ago, VH-1 supposedly ran a video of the Allman Brothers Band
performing "Statesboro Blues"; it featured Duane Allman. By the time I
found out about it, it was out of VH-1's rotation, the network told me that
they couldn't allow me to have access to it for taping purposes, and Polygram
Video (Polygram owns the rights to all archival ABB material) never returned
my calls.

We only have a few shows from each month that year, and some are partial. I don't think they stopped playing it, we just don't have any recordings of it for a couple of months.

Was listening to one of the radio interviews with Duane. He was asked who he would like to hear do an Allman Brothers song. Duane said he would like to hear Elton John do "Please Call Home"

Now that would be interesting.
