guys, I'm still wondering why there hasnt been a indorsed biography, movie, etc, about the Abb. Now, there's the "banned" Midnight rider, but if thats not accurate, well why doesnt some one do an accurate bio? Red Dog came out with his book of tales, Wille Perkins is coming out with his book about his "years with the Allman Brothers Band", and plenty of people reminisce, but we all know its one of the greatest story never "offically" told. So many people know so many things about the band, and it needs to be "offically" recorded before these stories are lost. so I just gotta ask.
"Why"??

I think Willie Perkins book will help fill in a lot of blanks. We will have an exclusive excerpt in the next issue of Hittin' The Note magazine, due out in late January/early February.

I've never heard anybody say Midnight Riders was inaccurate. The band doesn't like the book's content.

Butch said it was just a big newspaper article. It was written mostly with public information that anyone could have gotten. Not all that much about the music either.

Willie's book will be a must have for anyone here. It is written from someone who was there.

Scott Freeman, who wote Midnight Riders, is an award winning author...

I have a feeling I should probably know this, but who exactly is Willie?

When BIGDAVE and I were in Atlanta for the Fox shows, we caught a Braves game. There was a book about the Braves in their gift shop written by Scott Freeman.

I'm surprised Dickey Betts hasn't penned a book. I know some people who have hung out with him and he's supposedly full of great stories and if you catch him at the right time ,he's more than happy to tell them.

It seems to me that the ABB has sort of an unwritten "mums the word" rule within the organization.

I'm wondering why he wouldn't write one now that he's not a member. Plus he has a great motive to tell it all. I think it boils down to 2 things . As my friend says, there wouldn't be a big market for the book outisde the fanatical ABB fan base and or ,Dickey still holds true to keeping his mouth shut about band matters.

Even if he left out the dirt ,a book of his memories and stories would be great !

Yeah, and I think that's pretty true. Still, even Butch doesn't say any of it is false.

Oh, and Willie was the band's original manager and was Duane's roommate on the road at one point, so if you want to talk about having stories to tell, Willie's got plenty!

I don't know if Dickey has been bought out of his contract yet (I've lost track) , but I would suspect that if he hasn't he would violate the contractual agreement by divulging privileged info.

Maybe not a gag order, but you be the judge.

Like they say, "What happens in Vegas (the ABB) stays in Vegas.."

My buddy Kim Payne has been talking about this book for some time now. Willie & Kim have talked for hours over the past year concerning this project. He says it's going to be
the real deal. More accurate and fact based than anything else out there. Which IMO is long overdue.

I agree Lee! And what's neat about this book, compared to Midnight Riders is that the information is pretty much right on. Kim has told me several times that he regretted some of his input into Midnight Riders. This due to not being at a real good place and time in his personal life. Things that were very foggy during the interview sessions with Scott Freeman, are now very clear! Which I and a few others can personally account for.
He's very proud that finally the true facts will come out concerning the early days.

I can personally account for Kim being very clear with his facts. I have had many conversations with him about many different things and he is on the button with what he tells me that I already knew regarding the ABB, plus he adds all the things to what he says that you didn't know about.

Clay,

Is the "Midnight Rider" story finally going to be settled, once & for all?

I can't wait to check out the new book next year.

And, as far as Scott Freeman's book goes...I thought it was a pretty good read. In fact I've read it several times.

I'd like to see other books be released about the ABB. Some bands out there seem like they have a new book out every time you turn around.

I think so? I know a few weeks ago Kim and I were visiting with Johnny Sandlin
and Kim asked Johnny if he remembered that night. Johnny said yes he did.
I personally hope it's in depth enough and tells about the ransom note which equaled
to Gregg's new Triumph chopper.

I'm surprised the VH1 didn't do a Behind the Music on the ABB.
