Great show. Only real surprise was Creep. Dreams 2 Remember was on the setlist for both sets but was switched out when it came to play (Warren called Temp Saint in on 1st set instead).

Highlights probably Horse, Gameface w/MJ, Temp Saint, Mother Earth (Warren went off!!), Lively and Mule. Mule was straight up with no insert.

Peace

Ian

Hey guys, I am going away for a few days. If someone would check the mule site (http://mule.net/from_the_road/index.php) for the set lists and post it here, that would be greatly appreciated. Have a safe and happy weekend and send good vibes (and maybe a small donation) to the Katrina survivors.

P.S. Some of those sets do look disturbingly short, don't they? That said, the last two shows were festivals, so it's fairly typical for bands to play shorter sets at such events.

Hopefully Warren & the boys won't be needing to watch the clock this week...

Be sure to do that Paul . . . I'm sure you will have a great time . . . and as you say, Warren won't have to clock watch so you should get a show as long as the Amsterdam one with any luck.

I'm not feeling quite so confident about a long show in London . . . I still think it is absolutely ridiculous to have such curfews . . . or more to the point it is absolutely ridiculous for the Mule management to book venues that have such curfews. Back in April the doors opened at 7-30, the show started at 8-20 and they had to break the 10-30 curfew by 20 minutes in order to give us an encore, and even then I think they had to drop a couple of tracks from the proposed setlist to finish when they did

If, as has been suggested by some, they are more stringent about the curfew this time, the show would need to start by 8-00 at the latest in order to be the same length as the last one, and maybe as early as 7-30 to be the length of show that the Mule traditionally put on, so I hope that the doors do open at 6-30 as per the ticket so that we get a nice long show as well

I've got a feeling that the London show will be tight for time. These stupid curfews are only there to maximise money for the venues, they would rather put on a club night than give a band free reign with set times etc.
London is particularly bad for this.

Rob

Yep, both the Azkena show and the Tegelen shows were billed as festival performances from day one. The Bluesrock Tegelen promoters made clear from the beginning that they would play a 90 minutes set. They were scheduled from 21:00 hours till 22:30 hours.
22:30 hours has been the festival's ridiculous curfew in recent years.
But the show ran late: they came on stage a little before 21:30 hours which made me get real nervous. fortunally they were allowed to continue 'till approx. 23:00 hours.
The delay was due to delays in setting their gear up and technical issues (mainly with
Danny's keyboards).

I must add that a large part of the audience did not seem to like the Mule or didn't know what to think of it. A lot of the bluesrockers want straight-forward blues-rock and didn't seem to "get it". A few other bands on the bill had more success with the audience.
the local newspaper acknowledged this but still raved about the Mule and called them
the festivals highlight and that they excelled.

Unsurprisingly, given the TV broadcast, the Cologne show (or Köln, to be precise!) is almost wall-to-wall original Mule - a great opportunity for them to put THEIR music across to a wide audience.

Hopefully this might be re-broadcast on a channel that I can catch.

One day 'til Brum - WHOO HOO!!!

Enjoy the Brum show Paul and all you other lucky guys going to the opening UK night. It is a shame that you too have been moved to a smaller venue, but I guess a packed Academy 2 is better than a one third full Academy 2 . . . just make sure you get near the soundboard for decent acoustics
