Here are a handful of pictures of Dereks new guitar. It is a Paul Reed Smith guitar Derek received the guitar as a Christmas gift from Paul. It was custom made by Paul Reed Smith himself for Derek. He used a retired stye the customized it. He has made guitars for a lot of people but he has made most of Santanas guitars. He used it twice last night the shots are from earlier int the night he also played it at the end of the night during the end of Hook & Sling. I will get the rest of the pictures up soon. I also have pictures from IMAC, Huntington, NY along with other shows from early last year.

Hope you enjoy them.

Have a great day. Peace, Tamera

Thanks for the pictures but to put things in perspective. Midway thru the show he broke a string on his SG and the band carried on without him while it was replaced. There was a problem with the replacement string as well and he looked somewhat frustrated and took the new one for a few minutes to get back in the mix. As soon as the song was over he switched back to the SG.. During the encore the same thing happened. Itís not like with some other musicians that switch guitars for different songs. I didnít get the impression that Derek was playing the new guitar other than out of necessity. Having said that, does anyone know what gauge strings he uses. I have never seen anyone bang strings like he does. I'm surprised that he is not breaking them more often. Oh and BTW, the show was excellent. Todd did a bass solo that was amazing..

Yes I agree he used it out of neccessity but he normally fixes the strings himself and continues with the same guitar. The first time he switched it was because while he was restringing the one another broke. I have seen many guitars on the side of the stage and he rarely pcks them up when he brakes a string. It was great that he picked up a guitar(custom made) he never played before and jumped right back into the mix. I am sure nothing will ever replace the SG.

And I also agree that Todd had an amazing solo. It was great.

Have a great day.

Well dabo,

How did the PRS sound as compared to the SG? Might be Derek might start using it more once he gets a better feel for it. Anyway, heading up to see dTb in Bethesda this evening so maybe he'll play the PRS there. You know PRS guitars are made in Maryland, btw and I'm guessing that Paul Reed Smith will be in audience.

Peach, thats what I've always read but the bottom two photos are fingerings that work in standard tuning also. Think I'll tune in E and give em a shot !

PRS guitars are so incredibly ornate. The wood they use is perfect and incredibly beautiful.

Thinking ahead; is anyone planning on heading to Athens, Ga for the show in late March? Thinking about the short drive over there.
