Good to see the old band back together: Bob Burns, Artimus Pyle and Ed King. Hope the Southern flag didn't offend anybody. |

Artimus still has on those darn gloves! He kind of reminds me of that movie "Dickey Roberts- Childhood Actor". Bob Burns looked kind of burnt out too. |

Yes I believe all the Suvivors were there the funny thing about the whole matter was that the whole Lynyrd Skynyrd party seemed pretty amicable. No reports of band members stabbing or shooting each other. Other than maybe Ed King playing over Rickey Medlocke during the "Freebird" solo, they seemed like old friends which was a great thing to see. Ironically it was Blondie who had a tense moment between former band members. Like Blondie deserves to be in the R&R HOF in the first place. ____________________ "Seems to me that I once heard that everything is finally cured by time." |

Someone refresh my memory. What is the story with Ed King? Did he quit or was he asked to leave?
They did look pretty amicable. Actually looked to be glad to be with each other.
Artemus was working those drums on Freebird!
As for Blondie, my wife wanted to see them since they are touring. After last night she changed her mind. |

Guitarist ED KING leaves Skynyrd in the night after a show at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh, PA!
Ed left the band during the infamous Nuthin' Fancy "Torture Tour". Ed could not deal with his own drug addiction nor the band's drug addiction. And Ronnie liked to punch on band members when he got drunk or wasted, which was often on that tour.
Ed was long gon by the time the plane crash of 1977 happenned. One person who opted out of flying was Jo Jo Billingsly. I believe she either did not trust the plane, or she had been sick. It is all accounted in the newer Gene Odom book.
And Ed King left in the ninties due to his heart condition. When Ed was gone it appears Gary seized the moment hiring Rickey Medlocke. Ed King was always a thinker and a leader, and as such he has butted heads with Gary. Ed was an outsider in the 70's and it seems he was never fully embraced by members like Gary. When Ed joined the band in the early seventies he was the FIRST outsider. At the time everyone else was from Jacksonville, or at least Florida. Later ArtImus joined the band after Bob Burns has his road tour "freakout". It seems Bob couldn't handle or adjust to everyone becoming famous. Am I Losin' was Ronnie writing about Bob and the loss of a friend.

I caught a bit of the show last night. It was pretty good, especially the Miles tribute.
Best part was the squabbling onstage with Blondie. Anyone catch that? She wouldnt let some of the original members play when they did their song segment. |

Damn JamminRebel I'm ashamed of you! You of all people. What the "F"?
quote: When Ed was gone it appears Gary seized the moment hiring Rickey Medlocke.
How can you of all people post such an absolute falsehood? you need to turn in your rebel flag. (just kidding)
There were probably two other guitar players before Rickey and Hughie Thomasson were brought in before the "Twenty" CD was released. At least one of them was Mike Estes. Can't remember the other dudes names. Skynyrd did several tours after Ed's departure. If 72Velle was refering to Ed's departure from Skynyrd (essentially the Tribrute Band). then hell yes there was a tremendous amount of acrimony with supposedly Johnny Van Zant attacking Ed King on stage in Europe and breaking Ed's finger at least according to the law suit. Also Artimus and Mike Estes filed law suits after their terminations from the band. All these particulars were detailed in one of SPIN magazines best articles - SKYNYRD'S BLOOD FEUD. Not only that but brother Leon Wilkerson supposedly awoke on the tour bus with his throat slashed. Ed King or Leon's wife at the time being the prime suspects. Artimus has threatened to whip both Gary and Dale Krantz-Rossington's ass. And the relationship between Gary, the de facto leader of Skynyrd and Judy Van Zant, Ronnie's wife have been strained due to reasons both financial and petty. And to think that the Allman's had the market cornered on soap operas. So yes the fact that there wasn't a riot when all those folks got together was nothing short of a miricle. ____________________ "Seems to me that I once heard that everything is finally cured by time." |
