Forgive me for not knowing the answer but can someone tell me all the ABB albums that Dan played on. I probably should have posted this under his board index but I thought I might get a faster answer here because I'm not sure how may people check Dan's post regularly.

He is so dangerous that the ABB could not pay for the insurance to allow him to play. This is the true reason for letting him go. I saw him play last August, and I was afraid that I was going to get hurt.

Played on the following albums:

Dickey Betts & Great Southern, 1977
Dickey Betts & Great Southern - Atlanta's Burning Down, 1978

Allman Brothers - Enlightened Rogues, 1979
Allman Brothers - Reach for the Sky, 1980
Allman Brothers - Brothers of the Road, 1981

Gregg Allman - I'm No Angel, 1987
Gregg Allman - Before the Bullets Fly, 1988

Dickey Betts & Great Southern - The Collectors #1, 2002
plus a couple recent live releases from Dickey before he left the band last year

I always thought his nickname was kind of funny, not a big fan of his tone & whammy bar as of late.

What kind of answer is that? I hope you are joking. I met Dan and yes partied with him. When he played with the band it was not and never will be a church gathering.

Please explain your message?

-=DDT=- has always been a favorite of mine, since I first enjoyed him with Dickey in 1977 (Michigan State University) playing Bougainvillea

Dickey coined the "dangerous" title and it has stuck for nearly 30 years.

When I saw Gregg before the first show in 1989 ( first gig w/o -=DDT=-) his comment was (sic) "Cap'n, I sure do miss the Toler Brothers"

I really like Dan Toler's playing on the Gregg solo albums. Just bought Dickey's dvd and I'm really looking forward to hearing DT playing for the first time in years.

I had to throw in my 2 cents worth. Interesting topic. Toler is a Mechanic. Very structured. If you go back and listen to the ABB with him, I don't think "Dangerous" has ANY slow Blues solos. On cuts like "Need your Love so Bad"...(all Dickey) And Live songs,(Stormy Monday) Dan never seemed to solo. I believe Dan Toler was in the ABB because his style made the Double lead more accessable for Dickey.

I dont know about slow blues, but he seems to solo very effectively on everything else he played on. He smokes on Liz Reed from the Dreams box set. Seems like I recall many many very hot solos from him on both the DB and GS Instant Live from Cleveland and the DVD.(In spite of being sick)

"D"

His Pegasus solo on Enlightened Rogues is a smokeshow too -- burnin'.
As Geordielad says, I really like his playing on I'm No Angel and JBTBF -- between those efforts & playing with two eras of DB & GS and the Allmans, he's an underrated musician imo. "Night Games" from JBTBF -- he tears it up -- tone, man, tone!

I liked Dan okay back in the Enlightened Rogues days, but I often had a hard time distinguishing his style from Dickey's. Since then he's developed a lot further as a guitarist, and really liked him more recently with DB&GS. A DB&GS show I saw in June 2003 was probably the finest of all the ABB & "family" shows I've seen since the '80s, and Dan had a huge part in that.
