I don't even know if i can settle for ahh to describe my excitement. Kind of sad though I had forgotten about the show until I saw this thread. When I think to how unbelievable Derek, as well as his band, was at Wanee I get dizzy. I've never seen ARU either so I'm just unbelievably excited about that too.

gahh a conflict just came up, that I won't stop me from going, but may prevent me from getting there absurdly early and hopefully getting front row.

when I told the lady I had a concert I had committed myself to already she replied

Chad,
Please try to make the ceremony for you are the recipient of one of the 2007 chemistry department award.
Mrs. Higgins

Something about "for you are" that makes me feel guilty, but there is no way that I can attend it and still get to the show on time...i thought it was 3-4, but i now see its not...I don't know if I should skip the ceremony or stay considering I'm a freshman planning on majoring in chemistry.

I wonder how easy it is to "save" a spot in the Gold Area?
Maybe between me, Jen and EasyMike we can save a seat for you Chad.
having said that, Emily has a Latin Final that day too, so we might not be able to get there absurdly early either....

I was wondering when a thread about this show was going to pop up! I still can't believe this pairing is coming to Richmond!

This is such an "odd show" for Innsbrook, in my opinion--this venue normally gets retreads like Chicago and the Doobie Brothers and the Gin Blossoms and is typically populated by the seen-and-be-seen crowd. This music'll flip those kinds of people on their heads!

The "gold circle" area in front isn't very large, and your place isn't "held" for you--if you move, someone else can slide into your spot.

I can't wait to see many of you again--and to hopefully meet some new folks.

Chad, that's a *very* difficult call. I don't know what to tell you.

makimadni, I remember meeting you at the Canal Club a few years back. Hope to say hello again this week.

Safe travels to everyone heading this way! Hoping for blue skies on Wednesday...

EasyMichael,
May have actually been Starr Hill where you saw me. Either way, I will be there, when the doors open, and in front row. Im assuming these golden circle tickets are worth it if I can nab front row. Anyone know if the area is good for walking around if I get there early, or if it is close to somewhere nice to stroll around and walk in and out of shops?

I think you're right--it was Starr Hill. Sorry!

Innsbrook is in the far west end of town stuck back in a large office park area, of all places. There may be trails through the woods out there, but I don't know of them.

Just west of there out on Broad Street (250) is the new-ish Short Pump Town Center, if you're into overpriced, trendy goods. There are now other, similar, but smaller places like that around the area, but nothing "cool" to check out and/or walk around out there that I know of.

There is a little place out on the corner near the venue called The Market Cafe which is a combination gas station/convenience store/and a, well, "cafe" where you can buy buckets of beers and some very basic food items and sit outside in such a glorious, "natural" setting. They typically have local bands outside on Wednsday nights. (I played there a few times two summers ago.) It isn't the greatest option, but it is a place to hang out if the weather's nice--and it will be!

The concert area, now called something like grabajob pavilion, or some soul-sucking name like that, is placed toward the back of the office area. It's nothing glamorous, at all...not even remotely like your typical summer concert "shed".

However, as I mentioned, I still can't believe this musical pairing is coming to that venue--but, I'll sure take it!

I am very hyped for this show. My buddy & I are heading down from York, PA. It should take us about three hours, barring traffic. I know nothing of this venue or the area. Any pointers from locals would be very helpful.

Hey makimadni
Just wondering, but I read you're a college kid and you seem to go to the shows throughout VA. I was just curious where you go and if you live in/around VA as well. Partially just out of curiosity because I'm a VA college student (Washington & Lee) and Gov't Mule is playing on our campus May 26th and I'm supposed to get people to come so I'm trying to let people know on here. I'm going to post something in Anything Goes sometime soon, but if you, or anyone else reading this thread wants more information/a link to buy tickets I can find it and send it to you. Until then I can't wait for the DTB/ARU show!!
still no decision on the chemistry awards ceremony...seriously leaning towards skipping it, but the guilt is pretty rough...we'll see i guess

In that case Haisija if anyone does tape it and it becomes availibie we won't have to waste our time sharing such a mediocre show with you..since i know you won't want to waste your time listening to it...sound good?

The tapers who have been at previous dTb shows in this area have been fairly...unfriendly...in some cases. Right, Jim?

Brian, as I wrote a couple of posts above yours, there isn't much in the area of the venue--other than "town centers"-type malls and shopping.

Hey friend. I was at this venue two weeks ago for Mule. Don't know what you are interested in, but I'll share what I know. Plenty of porta-johns, plenty of drink. Kind of a PITA that you have to get an id bracelet, then buy tickets for whatever kind of drink you want, then get the drink (all different lines), but it's a system that they have in place, and I guess it works for them. Not really long lines, either, so it's all good. Not a bad seat in the place, really, even if you get the $10 tickets. Parking is really close to the entrance gate.

Word of caution: they were pretty thorough in their searches. NO CAMERAS! I had to take my camera back to my car, but the guy was pretty cool and made sure my 2nd in line spot was still there when I came back.

It was the first outdoor show for me this year, and it was great to start early with that. It's supposed to be bee-u-tee-ful on Wednesday. Last time I looked ~ 80 degrees!!!!

See ya there. Peace.
