I'm interested in a Les Paul 57 reissue Gold top. I found one pretty reasonable, well reasonable price on an LP is relative I guess.....while I'm looking at the Gold top, I spot a 58 Historic VOS in Cherry Burst that is really sweet....heres my dilemma. Ive wanted a Gold Top for a long time but really like the 58 I saw and now I'm torn between the 2 ..........any assistance is appreciated!

BTW, I cerainly cant afford both LOL.

In my opinion, the Goldtop is the way to go. It is like owning a piece of history. Thats what I think when I look or play my 61 SG RI. But, don't take my opinion on it, do what you think is right. I think the 58 VOS is a much cooler guitar though.

I'd go with the goldtop. That's because I don't like plain top sunburst Les Pauls. Give me the flame!

go with what feels and sounds best to you. play them both and crank them up. let your ears and hands be the judge. only you can tell you what's better.

play them both.
The neck feel of one might not feel good to you.
The VOS's are real nice instruments for the money.
If the 57 is aged it will be pricey, and I am pretty sure that the antiquing does not affect the tone, just the psyche of the person playing it, in that they think they are playing a vintage intrstrument.

The 57's have extremely thick necks, and I don't exactly remember the 58 profile but it should be a slight bit thinner and perhaps more comfortable.

I'm a 57 man myself.

Thanks again, I didnt buy the Goldtop or the Cherry burst 58. I found a faded tobacco 58 VOS that I couldnt resist, great guitar, sounds awesome....I'll get a picture up soon. Again, thanks for your help!
