My Islanders already lost Poti to Washington. Right now we have no freakin' team. Dropped Yashin. Losing Blake and Smyth. Now Poti is gone. Lots of work ahead for Garth Snow. There is money, so I hope he knows what he is doing.

I'm hoping the Devils can re-sign Gomez.

I hope the Caps sign fewer minor league players to play in DC.

This just sucks on so many levels.

Drury, Gomez agree to deals with Rangers

ESPN.com news services

The New York Rangers look to be making the biggest splash to start the NHL's free-agent signing period.

ESPN The Magazine's E.J. Hradek reports that New York has agreed to deals with both Sabres Chris Drury and Devils center Scott Gomez.

Both were a couple of the most sought-after players on the market.

Gomez, who has played his entire seven-year NHL career with New Jersey, signed a signed a seven-year deal. Financial terms are not yet known.

No terms were available for the Drury deal.

Gomez, who won two Stanley Cups with the Devils, has scored 116 goals in his stellar career and assisted on 334 more.

Drury, a seven-year veteran and Sabres co-captain, started his career with Colorado before spending one season in Calgary. He has been with the Sabres for the past three seasons. He scored a career-high 37 goals last year and added 32 assists.

Smyth now signed with Colorado. The Islanders are going to totally suck.

The Av's had a great day ! We locked up Ryan Smyth to a 5 year deal (with phone calls from Joe Sakic) and added size on the blueline w/ Scott Hannan . The Av's did miss the playoffs for the first time since coming to Denver last year but ended the year going 15-2-2 and pushing Calgary .
They finally settled on Peter Budaj in net and that paid off . Plus Paul Stastny and Milan Hejduk really started to click later in the year . This should be an exciting year for the Av's !
It really turned out to be a terrible trade for the Islanders for Ryan Smyth . They gave away 3 1st round picks for him , I think .

With all due respect to Ron and the Devils, Gomez is over-rated and will be over-paid. Good player for sure but in todays NHL, you can't afford to over spend on players.

Only got over 20 goals once and it was the year of the penalty so those stats are elevated like everyone elses. Went from 14 to 33 goals to 13.

The Islanders are in trouble this season unless there are some huge moves.

He has won cups. You can't overrate the ability of a top player to get it done when it counts. That's why Messier is one of the ten greatest of all time. I know what I am talking about. The Rangers have had so many stars who dissapeared in the playoffs year after year.

I see we also lost Brian Rafalski.

We better have some fantastic AHL talent coming up.

I haven't seen anything about us signing anyone.

Gomez will be a much more effective player away from the Devils system. I bet he nets 40. The Islanders are already out of the playoffs this coming season. They have nothing to trade and all the good free agents are gone. Next year is supposed to be a huge free agent year. It's gonna be an empty Nassau Collisium this year. Lots of crickets.

He was on a team that won Cups but he wasn't the marquis player. Certainly you don't propose that Gomez is similar to Mark Messier. Messier is one of the greatest because he was. had more talent, drive and leadership than Gomez will ever have. Just not the same caliber player at all.

Gomez may have a great year. To be seen I guess. He is a talented player without a doubt. Just not worth the money of the big boys IMO.

Just noticed that the Ducks signed Schneider. They must have been happy he got injured and feel they owe him.

I guess that could mean Scott is hanging up the skates.

NHL.com says he's leaning heavily towards retiring.

Good for him.

He's the only player ever to win all six titles.

Stanley Cup

Olympic Gold

World Cup

World Junior Championship

World Championship

Memorial Cup

Another Busy Day in NHL Free Agency
Monday, July 2, 2007 10:39 PM EDT
The Associated Press
By The Associated Press

Todd Bertuzzi gave Day 2 of the NHL free-agent signing period some of the star-quality that highlighted the first day of the shopping season.

Bertuzzi left Hockeytown and headed west to Tinseltown, agreeing to terms Monday night on a two-year, $8 million deal with the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks.

He was the highest-profile player to switch teams Monday, which featured a lot of the activity of the first day of free agency even if it lacked the big names.

I would never compare him to Messier. Messier is my all-time favorite player and personal hero. But he is comparable to a guy like a Steve Larmer. A very good player who steps up when the game is on the line. By all accounts he was a VERY imprtant player for NJ. Hockey is a big game.

Why would anyone , even Burke sign this a**hole ? His career should have been OVER with his attack on Moore . He probably would have got another 2 games if Steve was paralyzed . This guy is a total a**hole . I am sure he will cut part of this check to help Steve out . Oh by the way , his play on the ice has su**ed since that night in Vancouver .

IT MUST BE VERY HARD FOR STEVE MOORE AND HIS FAMILY TO WATCH THIS LOSER STILL PLAY AND MAKE BIG MONEY FOR IT .
