Yeah, I figure folks here like the ABB, Mule, Grateful Dead, etc, but using a little imagination what else might be spinning your wheels right now?

My latest and most favorite band/duo for 2007 has got to be Simon and Garfunkel. I started with four recordings covering 1968 through 1970. I bought "Simon & Garfunkel The Columbia Studio Recordings 1964-1970" the boxset, which is five studio albums with bonus tracks. I started off enjoying the latter part of S & G's peak before they broke up. Now I have been wearing out a show from 1966. I am hearing songs that I haven't heard on those first two studio discs. I have to say that I am really enjoying the acoustic guitar work, stuff like Anji which is an instrumental. And I am enjoying the extremely imaginative song lyrics of Paul Simon. There are so many haunting songs, stuff like Sparrow, Blessed, Richard Corey "who put a bullet in his head". The work of Simon and Garfunkel just keeps getting RICHER the more I explore it. I find myself looking up lyrics and listening with rapt attention. This is so far from the ABB and blues and jamming. I'm just so entirely entertained.

I've also been listening to some old Janiis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company. I am trading someone this week for a 9 volume Janis Joplin compilation, which is about 8 or 9 discs. That thing is filled with a ton of rare tracks, demos, outtakes, live stuff, etc.

So what is floating your boat right now?

It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carry the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life.

Their album Damnation is actually pretty good. Not really of a death metal sound at all, more of a progressive rock. I'm starting to get into some bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, and Primus. But I'm still trying to explore for some new bands.

In terms of old groups I just discovered, I have just discovered the Jeff Beck Group and The James Gang. They are both really great.

Mike Ness' (frontman of Social Distortion) solo disc ''Cheating At Solitaire'', Rory Gallagher ''Against The Grain'', and some really old Springsteen.

Outside of my Dead and Mule obsessions I'm really enjoying Warren Zevon and Deep Purple.

Of the "newer" stuff, I love The National's album, Boxer. In "ageing hippy" mode it's NRPS Panama Red and the first two Les Dudek albums. Also Laura Viers' Saltbreaker is ace.

Railroad Earth. I read about this new band in "Hittin The Note" magazine and was lucky enough to get a live show from this year (thanks Ed)

I've played it a lot since I got it, I guess you could describe them as a "jam grass" kind of band, bluegrass/folky sound with some nice jams, but they also play solid tunes, not just a bunch of noodling.

Check them out if you get the chance

Djam Karet and Deep Purple. Lots of White Stripes while I am painting the deck.

Incidentally, "Richard Cory" must come from the poem by the same name by Edwin Arlington Robinson. Good poem! I would like to hear the song.

Damnation is Mellow Opeth, Deliverance is brutal. Two sides of the coin.

The new album "The Ghost Reveries" is a combination of the 2, and is their Master Work IMO.

it may be hard to top with the loss of Drummer Martin Lopez to health problems. An incredible drummer.

My favorite band of the moment would be Sound System. That's me and my friend El Dubz doing some freestyle drums and bass. Pretty cool for us but not sure where we would fit into the local tight ass market. We did a freestyle version of Whippin Post called Trippin Post. Very out there. My young keyboard player had never heard the song before. We just jammed on the essence of the song and some pretty amazing stuff happened. It's kinda nice to play totally without constraint or preconception.

We have a very cheesy website and will post as soon as we get some tunage on there.
