Which band has the most LIVE recordings?

I think the ABB has more shows than any other band.

Am I correct, and who rivals the ABB?

Jerry Garcia.

If not him, I'm sure it would be Warren.

WSP and Phish have to be up there too.

Whoops... can't forget Bob Dylan.

Actually I have no idea, but those are all *strong* contenders.

What's your question, Jammin?

Who has performed the most concerts in their career? What band has the most shows cirulcating? What band has the most "live" commercial releases?

I'm sure the Grateful Dead would be at or near the top of any of those categories.

I am asking, which band has the most live recordings circulating, you know bootlegs, unathorized, maybe throw in some Instant Lives, that should NEVER be traded. The Grateful Dead have not been GD now for a while have they? I don't follow them at all and of course I know Jerry Garcia passed away. The ABB have been around now for 38 years of taping. That's a lot of live music.

I would think so too -- between the Grateful Dead & Jerry solo, & then the post-Jerry lineups (the Other Ones, The Dead, Phil & Friends, Ratdog) -- tapers are always present

Maybe it's Pearl Jam? They've got almost 200 officially released live albums.

There are a ton of Bob Dylan shows floating around. Just about every one gets taped. Don't count him out.

Like that banner there, PID08. Did you create that? Throw Zappa on there, and you'll have the bulk of my listening for the past several months. I always listen to a lot of Derek, and I've always liked and listened to Hendrix, Santana, and Zappa, but for some reason for the past few months, I've been hitting those artists really hard.

Anyway, nice work.

Peace.

Here's one of mine:

That's pretty sweet TopDroog. Same goes for PID08. I'm terrible with making those kind of graphics.

I think there is a shirt out there somewhere that chronicles the number of grateful dead shows from 1965-95. I think the Dead have a huge lead for overall number of concerts. I think 80% or more of their shows were recorded so I'd say the dead in a landslide.

Thanks, everybody. Sorry to hijack your thread, Dean.

Here's one of the first images I did, after learning how to use Fireworks (for the record, I've never used Photoshop). I could probably do a better job now, particularly in getting the resolution of the various images to match up, but what the heck, I was a beginner at the time. Peace.

The GD played over 2,300 shows...so you just need to figure out how many were recorded.

I'll try to look up the exact number, but a rough answer is "most of them."

Now as far as recordings in the vault...?

When the GD sold the vault to Rhino there were over 13,000 audio and video recordings cataloged in the vault. Some were partial shows, some were duplicates (both audience and sbds), rehearsals, studio out takes, etc.

Considering that the Dead toured nearly year round, some 300 shows a year for those thrity years, I think they have it. The Brothers have only "toured" during the summer for decades, along with the Beacon run. I am sure the Dead have the run on this, most likely on Dylan too, who may have ten plus years of touring on the Dead, simply because he did not tour year round either.

Worth mentioning in this topic, here is the poster for the Fall Grateful Dead tour that never happened.

TopDroog, those graphics ROCK! Especially the one w/all the guitarists -- but the b&w w/Duane, Berry, Derek & Otiel is really cool too.
