Thanks for the people who come into our lives nad jolt us a little bit, shake us out of our comfort zones, and help us realize some of the places where we put God second to something else in our lives. When I am not at peace it is bacause I am doing something wrong, not anybody else.

Oh, I really like that Psalm. I've used it often lately. Yesterday I was thinking of all the things going on, my mother, my grandson, work, everyday life, and how I'm doing my very best by everyone and yet at every turn it seems I'm met with resistance, and then my next thought was, "well, I guess this is how You must feel.." I believe God is always trying to help us, show us, to just take us in His arms and love us, and the ways we resist Him.

"I come, just as I am without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me..."

Great verse for me today. We started a men's group at church last night, and as usual I find myself irritated by so many of the life long "churched", especially when they start talking about the "unchurched" like they are some kind of characters from a scary movie. When we focus on our differences we are seperated by the deception that our differences are some how more important than the things we have in common, like the love our Lord Jesus. Thanks for reminding me.

if anyone has a minute...

there's an elderly woman I know, I go to her house just about every morning. She's "unchurched". Wakes up every morning listening to Chuck Swindoll then Charles Stanley. She used to attend church but now doesn't, had enough of the women's get together's, church socials, etc., and felt that the focal point, the center of the universe, Christ, was put in the back seat. Then, she does her devotionals, reads/studies her bible, prays. We talk about all things Christian, THEN on to worldly matters, which usually involve me going to the market for her or getting her prescriptions, taking her to the doctor's, etc.
As devout a follower of Christ as anyone I've ever met and she's a blessing in my life, moreso than anyone I ever met at church.

It's in the heart, not in a building.

Man, I'm really glad this came up. One of my deep secrets is, I don't belong to a church. Don't go to church on a regular basis. Haven't since I left youth ministry. At the time, I was so sorry at what we have done to church. The institution seems to have replaced the people. Reminds me very much of "you have traded the commands of God for the traditions of men..." Leadership? In my experience, is pretend at best. This has become church for me. I've been wondering how, if ever, I was going to share this. There now it's out. I agree, it's in the heart not a building. Or a show on Sunday morning (multiple interpretations here).

"Church" seems like it was intended to be a gathering of people sharing their struggles and experience of God, singing songs of praise and worship together and fellowshiupping. Somehow it has become an institution that almost mimicks these things and is held together by dogma and creed rather than relationships. And others see this and the hypocrisy that goes with it and associate it with God. We have to try and keep our hearts contrite and humble, which should be easy when we walk next to Jesus. Someone told me once that I might be the only reflection of God a person ever sees in their lives. I have a responsiblility to reflect him as clearly as possible.

In the book of Acts it is described as the fellowship of believers. Everyone bringing what they have to support each other. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. To praise and worship and to serve. "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.." The thing is the keys to the Kingdom were left in human hands. The leadership of the institution makes me think of the Pharisees, insert Matthew 22:13-36 here. You're right Doug, we have the responsiblity to reflect God and His love for his people, to not think more of ourselves than we ought, to put others interests above our own. Being the youth minister of course put me on the ad min board, where I saw how prevalent the god of appearance and materialism is. Real ministry to real needy, whether physical or spiritual, does indeed take a backseat.

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

God can give us all his love and grace and ask for nothing in return because he needs nothing from us; he is already full. We can only exhibit this kind of sacrificial love if we accept the fullness of God's grace completely, requiring nothing from others when we give to them. So often we want something back, even if it is just a thank you. That is not "agape" love.

"Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his brother."

John 15:13
