The great wonder of Jesus Christ's salvation is that He changes our heredity. He does not change human nature--He changes its source, and thereby its motives as well.

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Ephesians 6:10-17

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Sometimes I let my faith be pushed aside, washed out of my immediate thoughts and actions by the tide of everyday life. I take my eyes off of Jesus and focus on my worn out vehicle, the upcoming college education of my kids, the level of our bank account at the end of the month around Christmas time. I take off my eternal glasses and trade them for temporal ones. I feel the pressures of this world close in on me. I see problems instead of solutions, suffering instead of hope, work instead of grace. It's the same thing Mark posted not long ago; I take my eyes off of Jesus and start to drown. Thank you God for always rescuing me when I reach out to you, for always putting people in my life who remind me it's about you and not me. Always.

"You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace..."

Amen.

Doug my brother.

I'm pretty sure that happens, to varying degrees, to each and every follower of The Way. We are sanctified by His blood, however; given the gift of God's grace and mercy.

You are truly blessed...because you are a blessing.

"so often times it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key...."

"a physical world creates a spiritual haze.."

it's all summed up in that one statement "it's about You and not me"

I've been in the same place this week. Anybody read "An Echo in the Darkness"? There's a portrait of how I wish I lived.

I really love this place. For just this reason.

Met the the "Happy Husband" group last night, the one I didn't like when it started because so many members were obviously missing the boat spiritually (insert self deprecating sarcasm here.) We are down to 4 or 5 steady members, and it has turned out to be awesome. Last night's topic was pride. Ouch..........

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.

Colassians 1:3-6

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.

"The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."

Man, I had the opportunity and inclination to hammer a forum member and expose their hypocrisy, bitterness, and anti-christian sentiment, and was in the process of doing so, releshing the moment, when I saw a pm to me about posting in this thread. I am humbly reminded our job is to love others the way Christ loves us, to die to ourselves and our selfish earthly desires and live for him just as he lives for us. Thank you God for the way you work in our lives through the people you have created.

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Ephesians 2:10

God enables some to draw near to his Son, others, he doesn't. His way is beyond our understanding, the perfectness of it beyond our comprehension. Ours is to do the will of the One he sent.

I think God enables EVERYONE to draw near to Him.But, He is a Gentleman, He never forces Himself on anyone. But He is there if you are open and ask Him to come in. There is that old picture of Jesus knocking on the door of a home.If you notice, there is no handle on the outside of the door. It has to be opened from the inside. He allows all of us to have free-will.That is true love.

That's the key. Some He draws near to Himself by opening their hearts and minds, in the form of His Son, to His Word, others, He doesn't.

"No one knows who the father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him"
Luke 10:22

and again,

"This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him"
John6:65

these points are one of the five "Calvinisms", this one being the "Doctrine of Election". They have been debated and discussed for a while and as far as I know, certain denominations do not take heed in them. Nevertheless, there is no doubting the words of Jesus himself.

The important thing to remember, for me anyway, amongst ANY Christian debate or scrutiny, "opinion", or derogatory remark, is to keep our relationship with Jesus Christ as intimate and close and personal as possible.

"Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me."

John 12:26
