Need some prayers from my brothers and sisters here. One of my best friends since high school, and incredibly talented, creative, and intelligent guy, hung himself earlier this week. He struggled with alcoholism and could never quite see clear to humble himself and ask God for healing. The consequences of his choices continued to get worse over the years, and even though he had seen the miracle that took place in my life and the living witness that provided, and had the care and concern of many other people, he chose to end his life. Very sad day for me.

Now brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?

If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, how shall people prepare for battle?

I feel the need to come in here and testify. I've had a really hard time the last two weeks since the suicide of my friend. I can't remember how many times I talked to him about what God had done in my life, how many times I prayed for God to open up this man's eyes and heart, to reveal himself to him clearly as he did me, to save him. I'm feeling frustrated and angry at my friend for leaving like that, and I miss him. What a waste. But I'm also feeling what I can only describe as frustration and anger with God also. I don't understand so many things that are going on, especially why so many good people who are trying to truly live by His word are suffering while so many "convienent Christians" are doing fine and treating others like crap. I don't understand the bitterness and anger that seems to be growing all around me, spreading like a fire. I know God is not required to clear his decisions with me, or submit his perfect plan for my review. Sometimes I wish I could see farther, or have more faith. I'm going through this with the full knowledge that God has delivered us at every turn, every time. Mark, I'm going to ask that you keep this thread going for a while. I think I just need to listen. This is what I heard this morning, just now:

Comfort, comfort my people,
says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and proclaim to her
that her hard service has been completed,
that her sin has been paid for,
that she has received from the LORD’s hand
double for all her sins.
A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
the way for the LORD;
make straight in the desert
a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.
And the glory of the LORD will be revealed,
and all people will see it together.
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

A voice says, “Cry out.”
And I said, “What shall I cry?”

“All people are like grass,
and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the LORD blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever.”

You who bring good news to Zion,
go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good news to Jerusalem,
lift up your voice with a shout,
lift it up, do not be afraid;
say to the towns of Judah,
“Here is your God!”
See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power,
and he rules with a mighty arm.
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.
He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
or weighed the mountains on the scales
and the hills in a balance?
Who can fathom the Spirit of the LORD,
or instruct the LORD as his counselor?
Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him,
and who taught him the right way?
Who was it that taught him knowledge,
or showed him the path of understanding?

Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.
Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires,
nor its animals enough for burnt offerings.
Before him all the nations are as nothing;
they are regarded by him as worthless
and less than nothing.

With whom, then, will you compare God?
To what image will you liken him?
As for an idol, a metalworker casts it,
and a goldsmith overlays it with gold
and fashions silver chains for it.
A person too poor to present such an offering
selects wood that will not rot;
they look for a skilled worker
to set up an idol that will not topple.

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood since the earth was founded?
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
He brings princes to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.
No sooner are they planted,
no sooner are they sown,
no sooner do they take root in the ground,
than he blows on them and they wither,
and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.

“To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.

Why do you complain, Jacob?
Why do you say, Israel,
“My way is hidden from the LORD;
my cause is disregarded by my God”?
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40

my pleasure.

it's a slippery walk my friend. Stay on the path. I too feel sometimes that God is making some sort of mistake or isn't getting it quite right. But He's God, I'm Mark.

Isaiah is such a great book. God tells us in no uncertain terms just who He is.

that, my brother, is sufficient enough. As I think it's James says ( I'll have to look it up) "Don't think that when trials come your way, and they will, that it's some new thing".

"There are many different languages in the world and every different language has meaning. But if I don't understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me".

When what you feel is Divine Truth comes to you, in a dream or vision, in some state that was a spritual Communion with Creator God, what do you do? You have two choices..... accept It as a true Sign....... or question your own sanity. The natural course is to come up with every logiocal way to discount it. Then one can start questioning ones own sanity. Visions, Diivine Truth delivered as thought, not words, these can also be the signs of schizophrenia. Do you tell your friends? Risk their thoughts of your insanity? Post it on the internet? Or do you like most I suspect, file it away in your mind, shut up, on just go on?

Write down any experiences you see as mystical and holy. Leave interpretation for later, do not do that at first. Leave your window to Creator always open to invite any spiritual awakening. I will say it here, I have had an interesting year and I willl share one of the Truths I feel Creator has given me, and it will be blasphamy to some.

I go to Mass pretty regularly, skipped twice in six months. It has been a very special place, and is a supreme time to hear the word. It is my source for that, to be honest. And the Word is core, so I am reminded and taught. Is the Church the be all end all I hoped it was when I started back? No. It is important, but I found there must be a current, active Creator stance, and looking back to historic Holy words can actually be self limitimg if overdone. Aalways remember Church is the House of God, but it is also very much the House of Man. Never lose sight of that perspective.

But I feel I now Know something, due to a Gift of Knowledge. Creator is the term I prefer to use now. GOD is the official Name, of course. But GOD has been used by so many people in so many evil ways for self serving purpose of ego and man, that it has been left with less meaning and used to bullly and inspire fear, along with the million proper uses people do also. Creator is just a personal choice, I mean God, but it is organic, has not been misused like "God" has, and is more in line with the tie in I now feel to the importance of Creation.

But I feel Creator let me see a little secret. Creator is God. Is Jesus. Is Buddha. Krishna. Yahweh, Mohammed, Anuk, Shiva, Afjaa, Gitche Manitou, Anuak, Elaha, Holy Spirit, and the hundreds of others. The churches of many flavors are the way Creator has allowed man to have the peoples have an avenue and a window to Creator. We all are praying to the same Creator and many do not recognize it. Many do. It is True.

Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church, that you seek to excel. Therefore, let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit and I will also sing with the understanding.

Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say "Amen" at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified. I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; Yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
Bretheren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice, be babes but in understanding be mature.

Doug - My first thought was, remember when John was in prison and sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He really was the one, or should they expect someone else, and Jesus' response was, "tell John, the blind receive sight, the lame walk...., but then I read your scripture from Isaiah, same point.

I could regale you with all kinds of scripture that you already know. I can definitely agree with you about all that we see in the world, and even the hardships we face. But in the end, all I have to offer is that God is in control, even when we can't comprehend.

I've been re reading the Shack. Oh so much good stuff in there.

I am comforted to know that you are not comfortable in your flesh. I will keep you in my prayers as always.

Mark, you are such a jewel!

In the law it is written:"With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; and yet, for all that, they will not hear Me," says the Lord.
Therefore, tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
Therefore, if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?
But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all.

...and the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you. What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and let one interpret; but if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God. And let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, let the first keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets, for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

I've mentioned before how fantastic Charles Stanley, Ravi Zaccharius and Chuck Swindoll are, among many others, they just happen to be my three favorites, and today, Dr. Stanley preached and his message was based on the post above from Enzo. Good stuff. I highly recommend if anyone has a local Christian radio station, tune in to one of those three mentioned if you have the chance.

also, to anyone struggling with any trials or tribulations (who doesn't?) remember that "it came to pass" is mentioned 85 times in the Bible...there's a reason for that.

Have a blessed Sunday...

Doug, I think we all forget that part sometimes. Pity us. We so limit ourselves by what we see and what we think. But it's all good. It's part of that sharpening you've talked to me about right? This is one of those times when I really wish I could convey all that I'm thinking,

" a thirll of hope, a weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn..."

Let the women keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but let them subject themselves, just as the Law also says. And if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church. Was it from you that the Word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only? If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord's commandment. But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner.

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.
