Someone recently approached me for a trade and immediately these two ABB DVDs caught my eye. I'd never heard of this era shows circulating in video so I was wondering if there's anything official circulating out there of these two. If these are tradeable as I'm assured they are, and the quality is as good as advertised I'll throw em up here if I agree to the swap.

Here's the particulars:
ABB Gainesville FL 1982
ABB Capitol Theater New Jersey 1982

It's been some time since I've done a trade and like I said, these immediately caught my eye, so any help is appreciated.

Yeah those are from the Brothers of the road DVD, which is out of print. So, is it tradeable?

Thanks for the input folks. Like I said, I wasn't sure what the status of them was. Regardless of whether or not it's out of print and liberated I won't chance it. I checked etree and it seems some folks have them on their lists as well, but no notes on Brothers of the Road on any of them. I wonder if any of them know.

Ron,

It's just my thoughts based on what I have learned about trading over the past few years.

For example, The Gregg Allman Tour is now out-of-print. Should we be able to trade that now? I'm not sure where exactly to draw the line, and I am not saying I am correct.

Win Lose or Draw is only available as an import, Reach for the Sky and Brothers of the Road are out-of-print, and so on. Enlightened Rogues and Wipe the Windows are probably oop by now as well. Are those fair game?

The "DIME" standard takes it a little too far for my tastes, but I kind of think it is generally best not to trade released material. Of course, this release is never likely to be in print again, so... arrrgh.

Whatever.

I suppose it falls under the "use your best judgement" category.

(For argument sake)

So is every photo I've sold that was taken to the corner drug store and copied on the KODAK Create a Print machine.

Nice of KODAK to screw the pros it sold product to by becoming the biggest maker of do it yourself scan and print machines.

Probably true, but I doubt the video company that released this thing is going to come breathing down anyone's neck for trading it with another private collector.

I was looking at it from more of an ethical standpoint.

Either way, if you have to ask if it's right or wrong...

I've been wanting to see this, but I didn't know if I should because of it being officially released...

well I guess I will use my own judgement. I really like Gregg Allman Tour, in fact, I am going to record it and burn it to CD so I can listen to it without having to put in the record...

By the way, Enlightened Rogues isn't OOP yet.

Also, I thought if songs off an album were put on another cd that is in print then you can't trade it... Such as the case with Reach For The Sky, and Brothers Of The Road. They are songs from both on "Still Rockin'" and "Hell and High Water".

When I first saw that video (vhs c. 84),
I rented it and made a copy for my own personal use....
since i could not find it to buy anywhere.

I admitted to Gregg that I had "shoplifted" it,
for my eyes/ears only, he just smiled....
never traded it, nevr will

(i was @ Passaic)

Mic, i also saw The Gregg Allman Tour in detroit c.75...
i bought that on 8Track as a cut out for 50 cents about 5 years later...
still have it, unopened
PRICELESS

So you still have an 8 track player to use it in?

I have an 8 track of Dickey and Great Southern...still in the shrink wrap Now if I could only find an 8 track player to play it on

Speaking of whats tradeable, a few times I've received lists of shows from people who want to trade with me, sometimes their word.doc lists have stuff on them like Gregg's Anthology and Dickey's unreleased album.

Gregg's is out of print (sadly as its one of the best collections I've heard and I play it a lot) and Dickey's "lost" country album, which if you don't know is a complete studio recording, just never released more than 20 years later.

Most of us that have Dickey's recording don't list it on etree and rarely trade it out of respect for the artist, but like I said, I've seen people openly list these shows and trade them so there may be unwritten rules, but they're not always followed.

But it is a damn shame that fans of Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts may never hear these gems.

Dickey's lost album is completely tradable. The only song that has ever been released was "Nancy" on the Dreams box set, but the version I have of it is almost a minute longer. It is alot different, slower, etc... I don't see why it isn't tradable, it is unreleased music that hasn't been on any cd other than Nancy.

By the way, check eBay for a 8 Track player.

I would PM Rowland and ask him. It's his website, and if there is an issue, he could be fined if the material was copyrighted. This link. . . Though not exactly what we are talking about here. . . will give you an idea of what could happen to an administrator for violating copyright laws.

http://www.keytlaw.com/Copyrights/cheese.htm

Also the RIAA could get involved and sue both Rowland, and the person who traded the copyrighted material. From what I understand, these cases are tried case by case, there seems to be a gray area. The person who traded copyrighted material could end up in court, not likely, but it could happen. One woman was fined $250,000 for offering copyrighted material on the internet.
So you gotta ask yourself, do you feel lucky. LOL

As you prolly know you can't copy any cd/dvd that is copyrighted, even if it's for your own use. . . backups and such. Chances are the RIAA won't prosecute, but they could.

Ron you have more rights over your pics than you think. If I understand correctly. The first thing you should do if you suspect that somebody has infringed your copyrights is to confirm that you registered your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office.  (See the link above)
