I am going to spend this coming weekend in Macon! My wife is on TDY orders at Warner Robins AFB, and I will have a free hotel room. I thought this would be the perfect opp. to head to macon for a little ABB filled weekend fun! I can't wait!

Was it Jim Shaw's Seafood on Vineville Ave.? I may be in the north GA mountains next weekend......if I end up not going, I'd be happy to show you around some....if needed. I've still got to get to the Otis Redding exhibit at the Music Hall of Fame! Go by Rose Hill for sure. I posted some pics yesterday in the Allman-Oakley Fence thread that my daughter took yesterday while we stopped by there. I hope you have weather as nice as we've had here in Macon this weekend!

Don't forget the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Museum! Leave yourself a good 3-4 hours.

Yes MaconPeach, it was Jim Shaws, and I will have plenty of time to do everything without rushing. I will be there from Thurs. till Sun., so I should have a great visit. I would love to meet up if you are in town. Just let me know!

Unfortunately, some really bad news about 550 Blues (happened to 2 other clubs in Macon on the same night). This is from the 550 Blues MySpace page:

"We are closed as of Jan. 10th, 2008.

On Jan. 10th, the Ga. Dept. of Reveue raided the club for not having a current 2008 liquor license. There is no anticipated date for re-opening. If your band has dates booked with 550 Blues, please accept our apologies and make appropriate arrangements to your schedule.

The club is for sale at this time and serious interested parties can send a letter of interest to the club at 550 Riverside Dr., Macon, GA 31210.

So much for the live music scene in Macon, GA....R.I.P."

Yeah, for some reason, they "forgot" to get a city liquor license for the past several years.

Also Jim Shaws is part of a place on Lake Tobesofkee called Fish N' Pig. Sits on a little spit of land and most of the place is actually over the lake. The deck is a good place to feed the ducks and fish in the afternoon. Bar-B-Que and seafood, with a Low Country Boil every Thursday.

I know, Renee, it really sucks. Believe it or not, my husband and I almost NEVER go to bars, but we went to 550 Blues finally in late November and saw the Mudcat Blues Band from Atlanta who were AMAZING! Our one and only trip to the 550 Blues before the "revenooers" shut them down!

So I just got back from Macon today, and I wanted to recap my weekend.

Friday:

I got up and went to Rose Hill early in the morning to pay my respects. I had to call BigDave for directions around the cemetary, and I am very greatful for the help. Next I went by to see the Big House. It is truly great what is being done with this place. Also, got to see a little of the progress, and things looked great from peaking in the front porch windows. Next I had to stop in and eat lunch at the H&H. Upon walking in I notice Kirk & Kirsten West eating lunch with a few friends. I got to meet Joe Bell, but didn't get everyone else's name. Much thanks to everyone being so friendly to a complete stranger babling like a little kid in a candy shop.

Sat:

Saturday morning, Audrey and I went back to Rosehill so she could take my picture standing with Duane and Berry. Afterwards we headed for the GMHOF, which was truly a blast for a music freak like me. I have never felt so much pride in being a Georgian! By the way if you haven't been to the GMHOF, the ABB portion is fabulous, and the movie that they show there focuses mainly on Capricorn, and the Brothers. There is also a taste of what is to come for the Big House Museum. There ABB music section in the gift shop is to die for. I was able to purchase the Hourglass album. Ya gotta go!

Pictures will be posted as soon as I can get them developed and scanned. I didn't have the digital cam, so I had to make do with a disposable one!

Yes, it was great fun Sue! I know that Audrey was a little homesick too. She has had these 14 day training classes almost back to back. She went to Fort Levenworth, came home for a week, and then left for Robbins AFB. We figured that the free hotel room was too good to pass up for a weekend in Macon!

Unfortunately, the only people we can blame for the closing of those bars in Macon, is the bar owners. According to inside info, the bar owners just forgot to renew their liquor licenses. From what I hear, a lot of places down there have been slacking on their paper work. Hence, the law shutting them down. I hate to say it, but the law was right this time!
