I don't think it's EC, I believe it's either Peter Green or the guitarist form Captain Beyond, some will eventually enlighten us for sure.

We have that photo hanging in the studio and it's Clapton, Duane and Carl Radle. Duane gave Johnny the copy we have from what Johnny remembers as being the Layla sessions.

Isn't there a similar photo that's Duane with either Peter Green or Captain Beyonds guitarist ?

I'm not familiar with another photo like that but then again, I haven't seen everything.....just what we've got. I asked Johnny and he said he didn't think Duane ever played with or even met Peter Green so if there's another similar photo, odds are it's with 'Rhino'.

I thought P. Green and Duane played together with the Dead? Pretty sure it is on an official release from GDP, not sure if it is Filmore East or West. I believe a 4 disc set from Filmore East in 1970, I'll check.

Johnny's the first person to tell you that he doesn't know everything Duane ever did....he just didn't think he'd played with him....but he said it's possible he could have and he'd not know.

I was under the impression that this photo was from the Derek & The Dominos gig in Tampa 12/1/70.

Here you go ... various members of the ABB and Fleetwood Mac jamming with the Grateful Dead at the Fillmore East in 1970 ... including Peter Green and Duane

That's 2-11-70, and Duane, Gregg, and Peter Green played On "Dark Star> Spanish Jam> Lovelight" if I'm not mistaken.

Here is the other pic being discussed. It is Duane and Larry "The Rhino" Reinhardt. Courtesy of the Richard Price archives.

From what I can figure out...frontline of stage, from top:
Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Pig Pen, Bob Weir, either Danny Kirwan or Duane, Gregg Allman

Backline: Jerry Garcia, Bill Kreutzmann, Berry Oakley, ?? (on tambourine), Butch Trucks, if the guy in front is Danny, then this is Duane... if the guy in front is Duane, then this is Phil Lesh? (can't figure out if that person is playing guitar or bass), the guy on the far right, Mickey Hart (with drumstick)?

The guy on tambourine has been identified elsewhere as Arthur Lee of Love, who were the "other" band on the bill for that three night stand.

Re the guitarists: I'm pretty certain it's Danny Kirwan next to Bob Weir, with Duane between Butch and Gregg; Phil Lesh played bass for the majority of the Dark Star>Spanish Jam>Lovelight jam, but Berry took over midway through Lovelight, as Phil wanted to watch the rest of the show himself!

I was there that night - best "high" I ever got from music. I went to see Love. The ABB blew me away, Love was okay, I fell asleep during the Dead's set, but woke up when they started Dark Star and witnessed that unbelievable jam. Fleetwood Mac had opened up for Sly and The Family Stone at Madison Square Garden, then came down to the Fillmore.

I'm pretty amazed that the photos and recordings are around - who'd a thunk it would be such a hot night of music in the FE - it was a mid-week night late show on a bitterly cold February night. Normal people would be home in bed, but I had just turned 18 - young enough to boogie!

I'm fairly certain the guy with the tambourine is Mick Fleetwood.

Here is a better shot of the same photo. I think that is almost definitely Danny Kirwan standing next to Bobby Weir. Some people think it's Phil - they do have similar hair and build - but I don't think so. Everyone else is pretty easily identified. Where was Dickey during this jam I wonder?
