I have been getting Japanese Fuji's from American Digital, who no longer has any, says they are gone.

Are the Fuji/Taiwan blanks any better or worse than Taiyo's? I don't like T-Y unbranded silvers, but am OK with the white printable, even though I don't print on them...

Several months back I ordered some Fuji Japans from AD. There was a problem with my order and they called me to straighten it out (I mistyped my zip code and my CC was denied). While talking with the rep (seems like a real Mom & Pop operation there) he asked me if I wanted to order more. I asked why and he told me "because we only have about 1400 left and when they are gone they are gone. Fuji Japans will no longer be available." So I increased my order from 400 to 1000. I think the biggest advantage to the Fuji's was they used the more stable blue dye instead of the silver and were much less error prone. I think Sony now makes a blue dye CD and maybe a couple of others. I don't like the unbranded TY's either.

I've been using the unbranded silvers for years with no problems whatsoever.

Except for Memorex,I agree. I have been using Sony and Hewlett Packard's forever, and have never had a problem burning OR listening.

I've still got a small stash of Japanese Fujis, but only a couple hundred more, so I'm starting to ration them out.

I was hoping to buy some generic TY inkjet printable because I think the white top coat would make a more durable disc. So are they all gone now? I may shop arouns some and see what I can find.

I have found a substitute, though the price is a bit higher than the Fujis. I have bought several spindles of Sony audio CDs that are labeled as CD-R MUSIC and also have the Walkman logo. They say Made In Japan on the label and Nero Info reports that they are Taiyo Yuden. I have not looked at any other brands of Audio CD, but there may be others that are made in Japan. I'll have to start looking around...

Now on the other hand I have struck out completely on finding any Japanese DVDs...

Yeah, those Sony Audio's have been working good for me as well.

Much better luck with those than the Sony data CD's, which my computer spits out like chewing tobacco...

The Sony audio's have the blueish cast to them.
