Did JJ Grey have the two horn players with him, Al? They were the standouts for me last time.

Maybe I should have opted for JJ Grey over Lucinda Williams at the weekend. I vowed I was through with her after her last Shepherds Bush Empire show when she got riled by the audience taking pictures and also stopped and restarted several songs.

No problems with the audience this time - RFH audiences are invariably ultra-respectful and you could have heard a pin drop between most songs. And only one song stopped (and abandoned) - the third encore, the Stones' Salt Of The Earth. When a band fluffs their third encore, it is time to make a sharp exit!

I don't know what Saturday's house was like but there was A LOT of empty seats in the rear stalls on Sunday.

She hardly ever performs covers and there were two - SOTE plus... NMCTB! It was pretty messy but most of the second half of the set was as Williams opted for loud electric rock over the acoustic Country/ Bluesy material with which she made her name. Definitely last time around for me and her!

Ian Siegal and the North Mississippi Mudbloods were excellent on Thursday. No Alvin Youngblood this time but Carwyn Ellis playing bass frees up Luther Dickinson to play lead full time and he does a great job. That's the third time I've seen him in the last six months and I really enjoy his playing.

The band is still a bit Siegal-centric but he is a good performer vocally and on - mainly - rhythm guitar. Recommended.

It's Jan Garbarek and Trilok Gurtu for me tomorrow then Buddy Whittington on Thursday and John Surman on Sunday. Maybe Oli Brown on Saturday too!

I decided I'd seen enough of Matt for this year!

I must try and catch the Wild Rock Doves for the first time and I see that they are playing on my side of town on November 30th.

Yeah it's gonna be a squeeze! Shame we can't go double decker on stage ha ha

Shavian, do come... it's gonna be the last gig for a while, we got nothing planned over Christmas and then Duncan the other guitar player is off playing on a ship for ages sometime at the start of next year...

More's the pity!

Mule!!!!!!!!

Gov't Mule will be on the road through most of 2013 including an extended run through Europe. Part of this European run will be a six show jaunt through Germany from July 14th through 20th.

7/14/13 Bonn, Germany
7/15/13 Hamburg, Germany
7/17/13 Tuttlingen, Germany
7/18/13 Winterbach, Germany
7/19/13 Torgau, Germany
7/20/13 Herzburg, Germany

Hopefully, some UK dates and not just London, although I'd be quite happy to see them at "Under The Bridge" again - cracking little venue.

Burg herzberg Hippie Festival is strongly recommended. A time capsule of the Seventies.

Happy for you guys. Enjoy the Mule. But it means once again No Mule here for our Bluesfest. Although we usually get an annual does of Matt there so I guess it is a trade off.

You mentioned Classic Rock Blues which I really enjoyed. Have only seen one edition so far. Not sure if there have been more. Real expensive here which I don't really get. Classic Rock itself is not cheap and will run about $15. But both Prog and Blues run closer to $25. Costly but I do enjoy. Classic Rock has been a favourite for years. Far superior to any North American magazine although I will say that it has taken a downwards turn over the last couple of years but still a good read cover to cover. Do some of you work there or contribute?

Will keep my eyes open. Are you guys writers or photographers? Enjoyed the first one that I read. If I get a 2nd mortgage on the house and get another issue I hope to see your work. I haven't seen it since that first time, is it monthly?

I drool each time that I see the back of those magazines at all the acts on tour in the UK. Seems like live music thrives much better over there.
