The Brooklyn Bowl is a soul-less, overly air-conditioned freak of a place with games of ten-pin bowling going on all the while.

Venues such as the 100 Club and Borderline may not be perfect but they have some ambience which this place will never acquire in a million years. The IndigO2 along the "street" is much superior.

It will be interesting to see if it catches on. It certainly didn't attract many punters last night and those who were there were a very mixed bunch! It must be depressing for a band to play to a thin audience, only to find that it's even thinner after the interval!

I'd hate to see the bar service on a busy night! The draught Sam Adams is excellent, though!

As for the music - not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. But at least I gave it a chance.

Better get used to it Gordon, as thats where all the bands from the USA will come and play. Gov't Mule next week for instance. I thought the place was ok apart from the price of the beer!

Gordon, Al, or Jim.
Going to see Gov't Mule there next week, is there any seating as Mel will never stand for 3 or 4 hours. Have been told by venue that they will reserve a seat but this does not always happen.
Seems that you guys are not that excited about this as a venue.
Mart.

I quite like it as a venue. Good lights, sound seemed ok to. Bit of a bugger to get home from though.
Hopefully going to be at one of the Mule shows.

On the seating question there were a few. Over by the lanes there were some leather couches and i think there were seats in the bar area. Both areas have views of the stage.

Barstools at the bar area would give a good view, but not sure if they would work for Mel.

There is at least one, maybe more, fixed table with bench seats in the floor area, which would be better.

I thought the venue was ok. The ten pin bowling had no effect on the people who were there only for the music. Yes it's a bit contrived, fake, forced, whatever you want to say, but it's about the music, and there's some good bands lined up to play this place in the next few months. The sound was decent, ale pricey, and i thought the food was good beforehand, although totally unimpressed that a 6.68 service charge was added to an already overpriced 53 bill. I know Mule are playing two nights, but it'll be a lot busier than these shows surely ?

Terrific show on Saturday, streets ahead of previous years. Didn't mind the venue at all, not a fan of the late finishes though. Finished at 5 to midnight & I fear Mule may be a bit later given that they're due on at 9pm instead of their usual 8.

I would expect the Mule shows to be quite well attended as they do have a following over here unlike most of the bands that play there. Makes you wonder how long they can sustain it with small crowds.

Absolutely blinding gig by UM last night. Met a guy from Wisconsin on the Tube who's seen them 194 times and he said that was up there with the best of them, and was also the smallest crowd he's ever seen them play before. Shame they won't be back "for a long time" according to Bayliss. Particularly enjoyed the Bridgeless/Plunger + others segment and the awesome Exodus/Life During Wartime mash up.

Mart, you should be able to get a seat for Mel at the side, but I'm afraid the venue did nothing for me and the Catfish sandwich was ok, but nothing to rave about, but I did get a 50% off a show ticket voucher with my receipt, so I may end up at Tuesday's Mule gig, but getting there is a pain and I can't get away from work early.

Bloody dear for a beer though!

whoever thought they'd fill that place 3 nights in a row needs their head examined.
really enjoyed Fridays gig. It is a nightmare venue to get to and from though.

Charging 30 isn't going to attract a lot of curious punters either.

Can you imagine buying one of the three-night tickets they offered for 90, then seeing a 2-4-1 offer?

Someone badly miscalculated the level of interest.

My last train from Waterloo leaves at 23.58 so I'll miss a chunk of any late Mule finishes.

Can't blame you!

The UK seems to be becoming a backwater to 'our' sort of bands, you can't blame them for not wanting to come over anytime soon again.

As for the Mule, i hope they play until the early hours, i have a hotel booked 2 miles away, so it'll be a taxi/bus regardless, that being said, they won't be as good as UM were on Friday night...i'm still buzzing!

Shame on you ... I'd share an arch at Waterloo Station rather than miss the end of a Mule gig ...

Sadly I can't make either the RSB nor the two Mule gigs as I am away on vacation in the Isle of Man ... I can't believe that the only 7 days I have booked away from UK in the entire summer encompasses what would have been a great week to have stayed in London instead ... aargh!

Hope you all enjoy the shows! ...

Not sure. Would like to see JJ Grey again, but not so keen on Phil Lesh and co.

And it's 30. I was hoping there might be a late 2-for-1 offer, like with U McGee.

I might save my money for NMAS.
