is directed to the Ladies in their homes... but Guys feel free to answer...

When service people come ..such as cablevision, plumber, electrician, painters, carpenters, handy men....

When they ask to use your bathroom (restroom ) .... what do you say.... Yes or No....

I have always let them use my bathroom... ( I didn't like, but I did )... The last person I had ( Plumber ) just recently fix my boiler not even here 10 minutes, and asked to use bathroom.. I said ok... Not only did he stink up my whole house, but toilet was very sluggish afterward... I now had to go in with the gloves , mask, cleanser...

Today ..the plumber is back ... to finish up job... different guy , naturally... Guess what ?? Not in the house 5 minutes.... and asked can I use your bathroom ??????????????
This time I said No... there is a gas station 2 miles up the road... am I wrong... I feel guilty .

BTW... he is still here and never left to "go".... uh Oh

Sometime this year or last year mom had a physical therapist guy who was coming over to help her with some PT. This guy was a foreigner and every time he came he asked to use our/MY bathroom here at the house. He didn't come to take a WIZ but seemingly to take a DUMP. I don't remember all of the details but only that the guy was on my potty and on my potty on a regular basis. I asked my mom to tell him NO the next time he came back. I just thought it was pretty freaking RUDE for him to keep taking DUMPS in our bathroom. I understand some folks train their bowels to move at certain times but who wants a stranger constantly pooping in your potty? I simply considered it a very bad case of breeding or lack of manners.

Most are welcome though to use the bathroom.

I remember too once when a neighborhood kid got some Shat on our bathroom floor. I guess he couldn't help it BUT he coulda cleaned up his poop.

I'd let them go, and you might want to invest in a plunger. The guy may have been on the road awhile before arriving, thinking his customer surely would not deny such a basic courtesy. I always offer a beverage to the guy too. Courtesy begets good work, and perhaps a lower bill.

Maybe southerners have a different work ethic 'cause I've NEVER had a service person ask to use the bathroom. I always offer a drink, too, but they never take me up on it. I don't think they're 'allowed'.

Don't feel bad, rainy. They really shouldn't be using your bathroom.

Personally, I always try to take care of my business at home before I leave for work, at least when I can, and the other times I'll go at work. The only time I'd ever use someone else's bathroom (for anything other than a whiz) is if it absolutely can't wait. And then I'm looking for a fan switch and/or a can of spray.

I can't believe we are having this discussion.

That EXACT situation hapened to my wife recently. It was a plumber as well, and he was in there for over 20 minutes.

I think she would continue to say yes if asked, but boy was she mad that day!

Damned if I know....I really don't know. I usually change the appliances out myself as well as do most of the repairs to this, that and the other in our house. Monday, we do have a crew coming in to replace our heating and air conditioning system. I'll bet, at some point, someone will ask to use the bathroom. Personally, I feel like it's not good to stifle the call of nature. As long as proper etiquette is used, they can do their thing in our house. Four hours is a long time to wait.

I'd be careful these folks aren't checking what they can take from your medicine cabinet and using the may I use your bathroom thing as a cover.

I too am southern and have never had a service person ask to use my bathroom. I have had them tell me they had to "leave" for awhile and be gone just long enough to "take care of their business". But there is a convience store at the top of my street so maybe that's why I've never had this happen. I don't think I would allow them to use mine either rainy. I guess us gals have a different take on this since we are the ones that usually have to do the cleaning up. I work for a tree service and our guys in the field are not allowed to use the clients bathrooms and they are usually there all day. Have to go to the "store" for natures call.

First off, no problem here, go do your business and get back to work. With the cost of the trades today, I would let buddy know that I am not paying for his 20 to 30 minute bathroom break if he charging by the hour for labour. Also, for those with more than one comode, always send them to the "guest or half bath with nothing in it (aka medicine cabinet or magazines!)

When you first asked, I thought you must live alone. But you live w/ a man already. I mean, really, what's the difference? Don't answer that; it's a rhetorical question!

I live a little way out of town, and had a few service people ask to use the restroom on occasion; I've always said yes and had not had a bad experience so far. If I had an experience like Rainy's I probably would think twice about it too.

I have to put my two cents in on this one... Does anyone have to use the can at work (assuming many who posted work in an office and not manual labor)? Well these men are working for an entire day and sometimes it cant wait. I can see your arguement if someone is in your house for a week and routinely goes into the can for a half hour each day with the paper. If you work in an office would you like your boss telling you that you cant use the can because you work for him/her or that you take too long? That would be a huge lawsuit....just think before you say no to someone. For most respectable contractors and laborers they will not abuse the bathroom....done.
