Hi Everybody, It's Tad from NJ> I posted a couple of weeks ago about our ABB Tribute project. We now have all the players, and are polishing the tunes and will be playing out in about a month. We are all going to the ABB concert in August in Camden NJ. It will be a good mental lesson for all of us before we actually hit the streets. We are now developing our logo, PR kits, my space site, etc. But we need help with one thing....

The main mission right now is finding the right name. We are open to suggestions as we need help. We considered, Revival, Southbound, Seven Turns, Dreams, but those names are currently in use with the exception of dreams, but no one seems to like that one anyway! We don't want to steal anyone's name so please if you have any creative ideas we would love to hear from you.

For example, I was trying to find out if Duanes guitar had a name for instance, but I haven't been able to find anything on that, but if I did, maybe by word association etc. we'd find a name. We are trying to align ourselves with the early band and totally concentrating on the older material with only a couple of exceptions like Gamblers Roll and a couple of others. We have great musicians and have a big sound. We just rounded out the band with a new keyboard player. He comes to us from one of the Beatlemania tours, and has other strong credentials! We are just about ready to go and need a name!!! HELP!! THanks in advance to all creative, thoughtfull possibilities. Tad

There is already a tribute band called Midnight Riders, I think....I believe that's the band that was here in Macon in March. Pegasus maybe?

There actually was a band called DREAMS. Anyone remember the jazz combo featuring Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker and Billy Cobham. They put out at least two LPs, and played a few gigs at Fillmore East in 1970.

This was their debut LP and although I own it I've never played it much. However I find the cover art a bit interesting and psychedelic.

Duane's tobacco sunburst guitar got nicknamed Hot'lanta at some point, but it's not certain who coined that or when.

One thing to consider when thinking about an appropriate name for the band is which era do you most represent of the ABB? Do you do a lot of Dickey songs? Do you pull mostly from the first five albums? Do you do a lot of post '89 reunion material?

Here's a suggestion that would be appropriate if you do a lot of post '89 era material...Good Clean Fun.

I've got it!! A take on a famous ABB tune, but with influence from the "Deliverance" film. Yes, you can call your band "Mountain Cram".

Wow what great responses so far. There are some to consider there. A few funny one's too which I fully expected! But I did think of, "The Allman Bros Tribute band", also really liked Dreams but the rest of the band did not. Thought of the Allman Joy's but that would not be appropriate, I did also think of Hot lanta as was suggested and that is a good one and also good clean fun! I thought of all of those and they are on the list for consideration. I like the significance of Hot Lanta, I'd love to honor Duane. I met him and the whole band once in about 1969. It was kind of like a dream. I remember talking to Duane and Greg, Duane telling me after we sat there smoking cigarettes together, "We are the next band on. We gotta go..." My friend and I had taken the wrong corridor looking for the bathroom and ended up backstage!! That was a great mistake we made that night!

That was the night that Little Richard was also booked and he choose not to go on. Well they sent our boys out after the crowd waited for awhile. During the show Little Richard comes up on stage and stops them in the middle of a song, I can't remember which one, but he now wanted to go on. They got him off, he came back, they got him off again, and finally the show went on! What a circus. I remember Duane just standing there staring at L Richard in amazement. Richard didn't like that he was the opening act and didn't want to go on. I guess they told Little Richard he would not get paid if he didn't go on and now it was too late. I remember sitting there and looking at all the Anvil Cases branded with their name, and was just in awe. They were piled up the the ceiling it seemed! Meanwhile I hung with them before that show in Phila for about 15-20 mins. It was great, and now I cherish the memory.

So Hot Lanta is a strong candidate. I will have to bounce all of these great suggestions to the band. Thank you and please keep thinking over the next couple of days, we need to get this done so we can really get into our promotional materials so people know what, what, where, and why we are! THanks again everyone!! Tad

HMMM, I like "The Statsboro Blues Band" that's a good one, I like "Good Clean Fun" although we are concentrating on older stuff, but we do play that song as it's a good one! There are some really good ones. I especially like the significance of "hot Lanta" if indeed Duane's Guitar was nick named that....that really means something. i would love to honor Duane. Our Tribute band is concentrating on the early band. We love the vintage material.

I must admit with the addition on Young Trucks on Guitar it has renewed again my interest in the current band. This kid is nothing short of spectacular! I love watching him/them play, I will never get tired of it. These guys will live on forever. Look how long Duane and Berry have been gone and we all remember and honor them in our minds 35+ years later. That is incredible when you think of it! Only Elvis and Sinatra have that kind of longevity!

I can't tell you how much pleasure it gives me to play their songs with great musicians that can really bring out the sounds we all long for. This has been the most fun I have had playing in any band anywhere! Can't wait to take it to the people! We know nothing will replace the band itself, but we aim to perpetuate their music, forever remembering The Allman Brothers for what they are...the greatest performance band of all time! If we can even get close to their sound we have succeeded. Come meet us at the show in Camden, we will all be there to watch the masters. We will have band Tees on so you'll know us, I will alert you all of the name when we have it etched in stone! Thanks again everyone for your help, keep the ideas coming, I am hoping one just hits me like....yeah that's the one......and I must admit some of them are really good and may end up being the ultimate name!! I wish we had a prize or something for the contributing winner so to speak. We can of course offer you back stage to any show you can get to no matter where we are!! We have our first public gig in mid august at a 10 acre estate in Moorestown nj, can't wait for it!! Dying to see how people react to our sound. We all have vintage instruments which really gives it an authentic sound.

Please keep the ideas flowing! Very much appreciated. This is an incredible forum that Roland and Lana look after. Great job guys and thank you for all the time and effort they spend on this. I know it is a major committment to do what they do.
