I have been listening to A LOT Rory the past several weeks. In my opinion I think he really underrated. Irish Tour has some unreal guitar playing contained on those tracks.

Did I hear TanDan ask if someone mentioned Rory?...

Rory is one of my all time favorites as well...every since I first saw him do Souped Up Ford on ABC's In Concert way back, way back when.

The man was a master.

Rory On !

Rory? Who's this Rory guy? : )

Rory gets lots of love here. My first go was Irish Tour, Live In Europe, and Tattoo all together (you have to love the shuffle button). I love his Strat too. One look and you realize he was no pretty boy.

Get the Irish Tour DVD too!

RORY ON!

The Thursday night early show was broadcast on WREK-FM and my friend's wife hit record on the reel-to-reel while Ray and I were at the show. It wasn't the best of the 12 sets -- but it was still pretty good. You can hear me yelling ...

I keep seeing Rory's name popping up on the forum quite a bit lately. If I said how many CD's I own, I don't think anyone would believe me. Tonight I dug out my 2 Rory CD's. The first one I found is "Defender" released in 99. I really haven't listened to it in years. It is a remaster with 2 bonus tracks, "Seems To Me", and "No Peace For The Wicked". The other is a bootleg on a label called Tye Dye Records from the Nederlands. The title is "Listen To This Bono", a reference to U2. It has 8 tracks from BBC recordings in 71, and 72. The other 5 tracks were recorded in 10/76 at the Shrine Auditorium in LA. I was looking for the song "I Take What I Want" when I found this. That song is part of the Shrine recordings, and the only Rory song I really know. I saw Rory once in 74 when he opened for Aerosmith. I am going to put these in my car, and give them a better listen.

"In your town"..had some of the first slide licks that ever made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I played this album 'til it wore out..

The I stepped up to "Tattooed Lady"

and the slide guitar in "Who's that comin?"

I still play that slide lick...love it....

R.I.P. Rory...you are missed

He left us too soon ...

But it's nice there's a place here where his memory really thrives.

Usually when anyone asks me "So, how good was Rory...really?' I ask them if they like Hendrix and then I ask if they know about Hendrix's final concert, the Isle of Wight. Then I tell them Rory recieved FIVE encores at that show. Then I ask how many did Jimi get?

Their jaw usually drops after that and I have to smile.

Rory On!

Don't know if this has been posted before, but I had this and thought I'd share. From the July '74 Guitar Player Magazine:
