Maybe this topic has been discussed a thousand times, but please cut a newbie here a break....regarding the top that Gregg is wearing on the cover of the self-titled "The Allman Brothers Band" album (brown with fringe on it)....what is the deal? In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame they have, what looks like, this top on display and it says it belonged to Dickey. Did Gregg borrow it for the photo shoot because he was dirt poor at the time (according to the book I read)? Is the HOF display wrong? Just wondering if this a bit of trivia someone here may know. Dumb trivia I know, but it's been buggin me since we went to the HOF and saw it.

Maybe he spilt some of Mama Louise's vittles on the shirt before the shoot and needed a jacket to cover the stain.......

That is correct. It was Dickey's shirt.

That is entirely possible. I'm trying to find the photos. I have photos of Gregg wearing it, and I have one with Dickey wearing it as well.

I don't know anything about the shirt, but wonder if it is safe to assume soulstew2 is a female, since she refers to the shirt as a "top?"

Everybody (well, most) wore everybody else's clothes. There was a lot of traveling by Winnebago and bus and whathaveyou, a stop over at a motel every few days for showers; little laundry done.
From what I have heard (LOL), nobody wore underwear - took up too much room in suitcases.

No no no......oh man, it was late in the workday, I had a brainfart as I was trying to post before leaving.....and it really isn't a "shirt"...okay, maybe it is. !%@#^....I can't talk my way out of it. Anyway, I just checked to make sure after that post and had my wife double-check...yes, I am a guy.

No problem.

I'm just used to hearing women refer to their shirts as "tops."

Anyway, welcome to the site!

Hope you enjoy yourself here. Someone here will know the answer to this question.

Good old days? I still sometimes run out of underwear before laundry day. No big deal.

And we have our answer....thanks greggswoman, I knew I asked in the right place! I'm kinda relieved that the R&R HOF wasn't wrong! They do have a nice display for the band.

Early to mid 1970... 1997-2000... He still plays a white strat on Nobody left to run with, and he used a sunburst strat for slide up until recently, now he seems to let andy handle to slide.

pass the A2000 please...
I think Gregg is lot bigger than Dickey....must have been a tight fit...
I also think this is Duane trying out one of Rhino's guitars...
I think 2/11/70 and maybe 4/70 Ludlow and 5/23/70 Cobbler Mt.Jam have Dickey playing a strat
at various pioints. If memory serves (say what LOL!!!!) Dickey used the start on a few songs on the first ABB album.
I been doin' some thinkin' today!!! I better go lookin for a brain..
