So what do I find hilarious about this thread? I see one of the pushiest, sometimes-foul-mouthed posters on the site immediately start telling Rowland what's wrong with his solution. I see another one actually demand to know why Rowland doesn't "...keep banning the people we keep telling you to ban...." I see people who I could point to a hundred of their posts that were put out here for no other reason than to troll for a reaction from someone saying they *aren't* trolls and wouldn't *want* to come back under a different name, which kind of implies to me that, want to or not, they probably don't have the self discipline to stay away if they did get banned.

If Rowland didn't want conversation on this topic he could have just posted and locked the thread.

Ah, I see. So Rowland posts on his own website and we should all take it as an invitation to tell him he should keep doing what we *keep* telling him to do. Got it.

I can't fathom what depth of hubris it takes to tell someone what they should do in their own home even once, much less to keep telling him.

Got a question for ya. You *keep* "telling" Rowland who to ban. How do the "we" you say you're a part of come to a consensus on who you should *tell* him to ban? Do you meet in a Star-Chamber type chat room and go around a virtual table giving thumbs up or thumbs down to the targets of your self-appointed scrutiny? And when Rowland ignores your demand for banning someone from his website, what's the accepted, appropriate number of times to *keep* telling him to ban that person? Is there a point at which your Star Chamber compatriots and you just give a collective shrug-of-the-shoulders and acquiesce to the reality that your opinion on this subject is, as it should be, completely irrelevant and unimportant to anyone else but yourselves? That epiphany obviously hasn't struck you yet.

Feel free to just call people out by name next time, it would be alot classier of you.

Hmmm....I thought the quotations and accurate descriptions would be enough to get the point across. So how exactly is it less classy to give my general overview of the thread than to poke my finger in 3 or 4 people's chest by calling them out by name?

And speaking of names.....Ummm....I don't know your name. I might use your screen name if it said that you wanted to play like Derek, or wanted to grow your hair like Derek or whatever, but wanna BE Derek? That's not a name dude, that's just weird, obsessive idolatry that I choose not to indulge you with. There is an alternative that I could stomach using. It's less obsessed-sounding, but still an accurate description of you from what I can see. Why not change your nick to "Wannabe-a-Webmaster"?

Tom S.

In the interest of peace I'll just say that I think the wannabe handle refers to his desire to play guitar like Derek and have some of the satisfaction in his life that Derek has, to have a handle wannaplalikederek is just too damn long so I think he shortened it to wannabederek. I think you made your other points adequately so I will not add anything to them.

1) He is better than me.
2) He has an answer for everything.
3) He is better than me.
4) He is entitled to an opinion and I am not
5) He is better than me.
6) He clearly has more keystrokes to waste than I do.

All of the above is untrue and you probably know that. Tom gets upset when people try to tell Rowland what to do. Your point was that the moderators should take action sooner than they do, Tom perceived this to mean that you are telling them how to do their job; which I don't think is so.

I think you just want the abusive people dealt with quickly, firmly, and if it takes a while for that to happen, then you don't mind pointing it out. Sometimes suggestions are perceived by others as 'telling them what to do'. Even when that is not the intent.

Now can everyone agree that people who are abusive should be put in the playpen as a punishment quickly, like being suspended? They could also be limited only to posting in a thread they create about their situation where others could reply to them. Being able to create other threads is not exactly punishment to them. You could even call it the Punishment Thread - the description being, whose on it this week and why. If they show some sense of remorse, they could graduate to the Change My Way of Living thread where they make promises they'll try to do better. If they then get sprung from the playpen, they go back to regular society. If they screw up in the same manner, they go back to the Playpen to the Rehab thread where they remain to think about it.

Gina, you read a lot more into the words that are posted here than I do. I reacted to his words exactly as they were written, ie: "Why not keep banning the people we keep telling you to ban...." If it was a poorly-phrased thought, he could've easily just said so, explained what he really meant and I would've thought nothing more of it. He didn't simply make a suggestion that I interpreted as "telling them what to do," he demanded to know why they aren't doing what he (they) *keeps* telling them to do.

5) He is better than me.
6) He clearly has more keystrokes to waste than I do.

Things you maybe should've learned from my post:

1) No, you're better than the over-inflated sense of self-importance that your posts suggest you are burdened with. It's hard to believe that you really think you have the right or a good reason to tell Rowland to act on who you say should be silenced and who passes your scrutiny. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're a better person than to really believe that. So what I'm saying is that I'm not better than you, you're better than the drivel you're posting in this thread.
2) You have appointed yourself to a position that no one with the authority to do so ever created, sought advice for or asked you to fill. I don't have an answer for everything, but I do have an answer for that.
3) Umm....I'm not trying to get anyone banned, you are. Who thinks they're better than whom?
4) I am just as entitled to an opinion of your opinion as you are to give it in the first place.
5) See #1 above and actually read it before playing the po' po' pitiful victim again in your response.
6) Yep, clearly. One out of six. While I don't consider myself a better person than you, I certainly do think I'd score better than you in a contest of bullet-points. In fact, I just did!

Before anybody is promoted to Sainthood maybe a rereading of Rowland's post is in order...

Well, I was writing a nice flowery note saying how much we love the extended family and how sorry it makes us to see people attacking each other on this forum, but I kicked the off switch on the power strip to the computer and lost the post. By the time I rebooted, the playpen was already full of people who seem to like calling each other names... so I'm actually laughing instead of getting mawkish about this. I'm not entirely sure where to go with this now, it's your time and if you want to spend it beating on each other, that's your choice. I just want a segregated place to put posts and people who enjoy that sort of thing.

The Whipping Post was created as a place to beat a dead horse, not each other. In the first ten years of running allmanbrothersband.com, we probably banned two or three people. But lately there has been a barrage of daily requests to ban this guy or that guy, and everyone from newbies to people with lots of stars after their user names engage in personal attacks that raise the hair on the back of my neck. Banning people is fairly pointless, as you have all seen it can be an endless cycle. I can remove you and all your posts with one mouse click, so the good news for me is it is less work to delete someone than it is for that someone to create a new account, but if someone is determined enough they can do it. And you can ban IP addresses but someone with only a moderate amount of skill, or even luck, can get around that. This is the Internet folks, and it brings out both the best and the worst in people.

So... we're not going to sit here and read every thread and play Forum Police. But we have a new tool at our disposal to use when we see fit - if people want to act like two year olds, and apparently a number of people find that an attractive idea ;-), we will move the threads to that forum. And if people act exclusively like two year olds, they may find themselves restricted to posting in the Playpen.

If you want to set your sites a tad higher, check out the other forums. If you want to talk about something controversial or that most people have tired of discussing, put it in the Post. Post something way over the line, it will be removed and we will remove you and your reincarnations should we feel like doing so. Yes, it is somewhat arbitrary. That's life.

We hope that most of you come here because you enjoy it and you enjoy each other. We know many, many people have made friends and even partners for life through this community. We want to keep that good vibe. But in any community of this size, there will be a wide range of personalities and we'll do our best to figure out how to keep the peace.

Hit your note, whatever it is...

Rowland and Lana

I never said anything was wrong with the solution, Tommy. Past that, you apparently still have your selective vision on the whole "foul mouthed" thing (depending on who is foul mouthed and if you are buddies with them) and then you go on to talk about hypocrisy! I find that hilarious myself. You probably wont see this as I havent been back to this thread since my last post here, but you know where to reach me should you wish to comment.

Nope, she was driven off. Some say by her own accord, some disagree...as most polarizing topics there are opinions way to the left and way to the right.

She'll be back, hopefully.

I sure didn't agree with her most of the time, but she was always thought provoking and I enjoyed repartee with her.

Just a thought. Why not have everyone put their actual name on instead of hiding behind anonymous screen names? I'd venture the folks who talk the most crap don't behave that way in person. At least not for long

Well, first off, thank you Rowland and Lana for addressing this. I suppose my 2 cents don't matter much, my friends here no who I am and I have always been a straight up guy.
But, I am glad this has been addressed, because quite frankly, I haven't been posting here for the last several months ( I do read posts a lot) for this reason. I grew tired of people bickering and arguing over nonsense. Constantly. I hope this will finally put an end to it. I already went to Middle School, it was called Junior High back then. I don't really want to go back there. LOL
Hello to friends I haven't seen in a few and good vibes to those I have yet to meet. See you on the road. B

That means when you post to bump it, then delete that post, it has NO EFFECT.

Your new name is still there, even though you deleted your post.
