Okay, I've finally got the downloading thing worked out: bit torrents, flac, converting etc. My question is if you download a show that is in video format, what kind of file are you downloading?

Is it something you have to convert i.e. flac>wave format, or is it something you can view and save to dvd right away?

Any advice would be appreciated folks

I am by no means an expert on this but as I recall....you will get a folder or two that are ts_video (I think)..again as I recall you then have to drag that into Nero or whatever burning software you are using so it can convert it to burn to the dvd

I'm sure someone has a more detailed explanation.

Yep, that is correct.

The files are not compressed in any way, so the VIDEO_TS folder *is* the DVD. You can play the files directly from your hard drive, or drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder into Nero or whatever and it will burn the disc. No conversion necessary.

Just to make things a bit more complicated, while you normally get the files you need to directly burn a DVD they can still be in different formats (NTSC- used mostly in the US) or PAL- used mostly in Europe). You may need to experiment to see if they files play only on your computer or also on your standalone player- sometimes the new cheap ones will play more formats that the high-end players...
