Could just be a symptom of getting older...but in my opinion, there has been a drop in "service levels" for years now...

Back when I was a kid...we were smart ass kids sure, but there was a certain work ethic that prevailed...it just doesn't seem like that "prevails" anymore.

I know there are pockets of "kids" that are OK, but for the most part.....

Now,

i can take it back later or call the place and tell them

and take it back tomorrow and they would straighten it out

Look at it like this. In San Diego, you are extremely fortunate if the person taking your order even speaks English...

If you're alluding to "fast food".. then it is almost a 100% possibility that the person taking your order is a Native Spanish speaker. In a "sit down" restaurant, your chances of getting the order "semi" correct are much higher.

Jack in the Box
Taco Bell
McDonald's
Wendy's

etc.

Are now the domain of Spanish speaking workers.

I went to a Dunkin' Donuts once and the person taking my order could not understand "Coffee, milk, no sugar." It took four cups of coffee and a different server before I finally got a coffee without sugar. The person didn't speak Spanish, I think she only understood Polish or Russian. But it blows my mind as to how people can be hired to take these jobs when they can't even communicate in English in an English speaking country.

OR

Forget the language barrier for a moment, how about when they don't have a clue as to how to operate the register OR make change? Sorry, but that is a pet peeve of mine.

When I Was a little kid, I used to order hamburgers plain & dry with just the bun & meat, & nothing else on it. Several times the order got messed up. It'd have cheese, tomatoes, etc. on it, & sometimes we'd have to tell them more than once to fix it right. It was annoying. Fortunately, now that I'm 23, I put more stuff on my burgers, but I still don't eat cheese on them. Still, when you say plain & dry, people should know what you mean by that.

Oh please... "Welcome to George W. Bush's ..... America" That's the best you can do. It's because of President Bush we have a lot of Spanish speaking people serving us food? Yep. Just blame the President.

I always have to check before I leave any Arby's . Most of the restraunts are pretty good with service here, but 8 out of 10 times any Arby's will mess up the order. Then you have to deal with the woman in her 50's at the money window with the prison tattoos.

Ha, ha my sentiments exactly. But one time we were in a restaurant, ordered some beers and asked if we could order "too," meaning food. She heard "two" and came back with two budweisers for each of us. We just laughed and drank them.

I stopped at the local Bagel store this morning at 6:55am..not a soul in the store except the owner ( he was reading the paper ) and a young woman behind the corner...
I said ... a buttered plain bagel and small coffee light ..half and half....Please ...
I paid and drove the 30min 's to work.... anticipation of that yummy bagel....
Got ready for the day... and decided while it was still quiet to go eat my bagel and drink my cold coffee... To my great disappointment , when I open the wrapped item...it was a ROLL.... WOW... a simple thing like that and no customers in the store to even say..AWW she was busy .....

The all white, all English speaking staff at our local Appleby's can't get it right very often.

When they announced their new curbside service for takeout, just try and get one of their lazy asses to bring the food to the curb. We get tired of waiting and go in to pick up the order. Or when you call in your order and request curbside service, they tell you it would be better to come inside. Better for who?

Most of the time when we order takeout, we are tired and not dressed to go inside. I'm talking pajamas sometimes. Nobody pays attention anymore.
This is a lazy selfish generation of spoiled brats. I said that at work and one of my employees told me, very sweetly, it was my generation that spoiled them. LOL But it's really not funny.

With the wages they are paid, it's hard to get bi-lingual or English speaking workers. But that may change now.A couple of years ago a Subway in Gulf Shores, AL, had to close at four o'clock because they couldn't find anyone to work at night. And they were paying $10/hr., not a bad wage then.
