I Received an e-mail for upcoming shows at the Handlebar yesterday! Found this little nugget screaming at me! The Handlabar is a great venue with good food and a great listening room- capacity prob 400- intimate enough for plenty of interaction with the crowd! I'm sure the Mrs and I will be planning on making this one! Also Wanda Johson is the real deal! She is one of the finest Blues/R&B singers to come out of the upstate SC in a long while! Two healiners! It should be a great night of music! The show is part of an annual Blues Weekend that the Handlebar hosts each year.

Friday, February 13, 2009, 8:00pm
COMPASS OF CAROLINA'S 12th ANNUAL CHASE AWAY THE BLUES featuring TINSLEY ELLIS
with special guest WANDA JOHNSONKicking off the first night of the biggest two-night blues festival in Greenville is hard-rocking blues-soaked guitarist/vocalist/song-writer Tinsley Ellis. Tinsley sings and plays with the energy and soul of all the great Southern musicians who came before him. Ellis attacks his music with rock power and blues feeling, following in the tradition of Deep South musical heroes Duane Allman, Freddie King, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. His live shows feature extended fretwork filled with melodic and rhythmic experimentation, in the spirit of jam bands like his friends Widespread Panic and The Allman Brothers. Atlanta Magazine declared Ellis "the most significant blues artist to emerge from Atlanta since Blind Willie McTell. $20 (Proceeds benefit Compass of Carolina) Light buffet at 7 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m. - Links: Tinsley Ellis, Buy Tickets From Compass of Carolina online!

Hope to see some my Peahcorp Buds making the drive down from Charlotte or up from the Augusta/Aiken areas for this one!

Hey John and Drew! John the food at the Handlebar is decent Bar/sandwich fare and pretty reasonable. The bar is a block off north main a 1/4 mile or so north of the main downtown business center, so there's plenty of fare of all kinds within a short drive. Usually if you eat there, they'll let ya save your seats sorta like the Neighborhood theater does, the waitress will put a reserved card in seats for ya. We usually eat there if we're coming in for a friday show and pushed for time. If it's a sat or sun show and we have plenty of time, sometimes we'll eat elswhere. Hope you and susie and Drew hope the roaddawgs can makr for this one. Tinsley usually draws a great crowd and Wanda has a big SC following as well. should be a packed houseand rockin good one! Ya'll will love the Handlebar, great vibe, nice room and they bring in a lot of good music of all kinds.

That sounds great - hey, I want my reserved seat right in front of Evil!! Also, I hope someone else besides myself gets up and dances, as I am sure Tinsely is tired of seeing just me up there dancing like I was in Charlotte - LOL!

The Handlebar is a cool place. I have never eaten there. But depending on the time it takes us all to get there on a Friday, eating there may be the only option. Looking forward to seeing everyone. I hope they have their new keyboard player by then,

There is a Handle Bar restaurant in my neighborhood, so please do the Handle Bar circuit! LOL. The Handle Bar here is too small for a band, but Tinsley knows a few places around town.
