Anybody still play this? I am in my 40s and still play with my son as much as I can, hes now 13 and pretty much kicks my butt everytime. Man I used to play whiffle ball all day long as a kid. Automatic, no baserunning against the house. Lots of fun

Whiffle ball was the game of choice, say, between 4th and 6th grades. We'd play at the side street intersections, with the four sewer caps serving as the bases.

7 on a side, no catcher or short-stop.

In college there were about 20 of us who made a little league. 2 MAN TEAMS. My team was great my friend could make that ball do all kinds of stuff. Man that was fun.

Sure, all the time from about age 12 through 17.

We used to play one or two man teams, with the strike zone taped to the garage door.

No base running.

One summer I was undefeated, until one game I had my girlfriend on my team.

From Brooklyn as well, sure did...stoop ball, punch ball, stick ball and
Whiffle Ball...(baseball size and softball size)...Always carry a Whiffle ball
and bat in the trunk of the car at all times. Play on the beach in the summer
with a beach chair as the strik zone. If you write to the address on the side
of the whiffle ball box they will send you a copy of the rules and a lay out of the
whiffle ball field. I never new the game has it's own rules and field lay out.
Excellent stuff.. I can go on all day..and this is why I use the name TheBabe714
for babe ruth.

Excellent post johns516 ~

All you needed back in the day was some kind of ball & some chalk to make your field on the street and a game would break out ! Good Times

I'm 40 and my son is 7 so yes we play it all the time. Growing up my buddies and I would select our own allstar rosters for Homerun derbies. Mike Schmidt, Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Andre Dawson, Mike Garvey were just a few stars and we were all roid free.

I love Wiffle ball. We used to get crazy for this game growing up. I had friends who could make the ball curve around the batter and into the Strike zone. That ball can do crazy things. We also had different home run points for righty and leftys. Great stuff. I still play on occasion.

I no longer play and haven't for over fifteen years due to major back problems, but when I was a kid we would play all of the time in the summer. The great thing about wiffle ball is that you can play and adapt rules regardless of how many players you have. Me and a friend used to play one on one all of the time in my front yard in the summer. We would set different boundaries where if the ball was hit there it would be worth a certain hit.

We would also take different MLB teams and act as if we were batting as those team's lineups and batting orders. We would go through each teams batting order and you had to bat from the side of the plate that the respective coinciding player did. We got pretty good at switch hitting. I always chose the Mets of course. Fortunately I fared much better than the lowly Mets in those days.

I haven't personally played it since I was a kid, but my 21 year old nephew lives with me & he & his buddies play all the time when it's not wintery like now!

We make our own rules. When l was a kid we played 2 person teams, one out a inning. My back yard was small but there was a big pine tree that would stop the homers. Those where the good olde days!!

I don't play either, but every spring we look forward to a huge community wiffleball tournament that is a fundraiser for cancer research. People come from all over to play and watch. Many of the particiants have been doing it for a decade! Its a great time!

Wow, memories....

Whiffle ball tourneys going on all the time when I was a kid. The hitter was across the street, the pitcher in front of the fence on the other side. A "clean" catch was an out, grounder that got through or was bobbled a single, off the fence in the air a double, over the fence a homer. I think a triple was a ball that hit the top of the fence and went over.

We had teams made up of our favorite players and kept stats. Pretty good operation going on for a bunch of ten year olds.

I still remember the day that I blew a 13 run lead in the bottom of the ninth, guess the old arm just gave out...

Oh yeah, played all day in the Summer as a kid...makes me wonder about all this pitch count nonsense for little leaguers...we literally threw all afternoon and then pitched baseball at night.

Still play with my kids now and then.

Oh hell yeah!.. there a lot of different types of whiffle balls.

solid
holes on just one side
holes throughout

The ball that had holes on just one side could "sink" and "rise" like nobody's business.

The solid one would "knuckle" all over the place.

My friend built a scoreboard with numbers that could be hung on hooks...we took that to everyone's house that had their own "field"...great times.

My next door neighbor had the best whiffle ball field you could ever hope for and we spent a lot of time over there, sometimes playing all day. A home run was over the fence into my yard. Great times.
