I saw a piece on CNN this weekend, you remember Detroit the city where all the fat cat auto executives raked in their millions and flew to senate hearings in their private jets, well the public schools are so broke that students are being rewarded if they are able to bring light bulbs, garbage bags, toilet paper to school. Pathetic.

Don't get me started. The whole society has been lving above its means because of funny money. In 2001 the investors got nuts; it was crazy. what's scary here is this was caused by the banks and other institutions that were supposed to be conservative and protect us. I read that AIG had borrowed over 30 dollars for every dollar in equity it owned. Talk about sub-prime. This guys should rot

Too bad AIG manages the retirement accounts of 40% of the country.

Being from the Detroit area and spending many many nights there I am proabably a little defensive, but pathetic? I think sad, unfortunate, or ridiculous would be a better fit. These kids dont have a say in it, and if they can help out, that is very noble im my opinion. On the other hand, the city is beyond poor and needs help.

I have family in the financial industry. Somehow they still cling to the illusion that they created wealth but someone else is responsible for destroying it. they still think their inflated paychecks/bonuses are deserved because this was done to them not by them. it's unreal. Unfortunately they rest of us can't sit down at night due to the trauma to our butts

Our school district is fine where I live, however it has turned into a socialist system.
My kids are required to bring in a list- x number of pencils- unopened, glue, tissues, folders, etc -way more than they need. I asked the teacher what was going on after my kids came home with different folders. She said that all of the supplies go into a central pool and kids that don't bring any are allowed to choose first!
WTF!!?
75% of the kids at my children's school get free lunch due to their parents income- or supposed lack thereof. Yet these same kids are being picked up in beautiful cadillacs, new SUV's and what have you. My wife and I drive a 2003 and a 2000 GMC and Caravan respectively and we pay $40 a month for each of my kids to eat.

I am so sick of being penalized for putting myself through college and earning an average income I could puke.

The whole country is going to become more socialistic. There needs to be responsibility to go along with the entitlement. People who work hard should have the opportunity to make a decent living; those who won't don't deserve to be supported in the same manner. Unfortunately the Wall Street idiots have set up a scenario where we are swinging too far in the other direction
