Anyone picked up The Decemberists' new album The Hazards of Love? I highly recommend it, very tasty! And only $9.99 on itunes before it comes out tomorrow.

Never listened to 'em, although I've heard of 'em. What's their music sound like, Wayne?

Yes. I only own their previous album The Crane Wife, but I like that one a lot.

As far as what they sound like, I'd say Folk Rock guitar based intermixed with a bit of a harder edged sound at times and also with a bit of 70's progressive rock influence thrown in.

Their guitarist is also the singer and main songwriter. His lyrics display an appreciation for traditional folklore and historical themes.

I'm basing this on just that one album Wayne, so feel free to disagree with me here...

I had never heard them before until the ad on itunes caught my eye and I liked the samples, so I bought the album, glad I did. probably they are not for everybody, but the album is reviewed in the latest Rolling Stone and some of their thoughts are the same as mine...

"old-fashioned prog concept record"

"strummy British folk rock and heavy-metal thunder, orchestral strings and a children's choir."

"love their models, Led Zeppelin and Fairport Convention among them."

I think les paul sunburst sums their sound up perfect for me.
