Sorry. I couldn't resist. I just felt the focus needed to change a bit.

Seriously, I have now heard that Chuck Leavell may no tbe guesting because of a falling out with the band. I am wondering if rumours and bs flying around here have mixed up more fact and fiction-

Chuck left the Brothers with some royalties and contract issues.

He has played with them since then

Talk when Clapton played last weekend that Chuck would show surfaced some story about he & Clapton having money issues over the Unplugged album.

Please discuss. All of the teenie bopper magazines are tired of hearing about this Dickey Betts guy and want some fresh blood!

I thought you meant Wharfrat. Chuck has no issues with the ABB, and the word is that he will be going to more shows this week.

Chuck Leavell is another issue.

You mean Wharf Rat is mad at the Brothers? He won't be sitting in? Or are they making him sit in the audience instead of on stage?

Those bastids~!

What I just posted in the latest of what seems like 1000 Dickey at the Beacon threads:

I believe what you heard is that Chuck had a falling out with Clapton, not The ABB. It was over Royalties on some recordings he did with EC. THat was talked about here just last week. Chuck said something to the effect like "I guess I'm gonna have to ask for more money up front then"... Chuck's relationship with The Brothers is very solid as far as we know.

It was about the royalties for Unplugged. Chuck covered it in his book Between A Rock And A Hard Place....he had a handshake agreement with Roger Forrester, Clapton's manager, that if it took off they would renegotiate. When it did, Chuck called Forrester on it, and Forrester basically told him to Fock off, that he was lucky to have a job. None of the band that played on Unpugged got anything extra once it became the biggest selling Music DVD ever up to that time. EC got it all.

Man! I just hope he makes it to play with the Borthers on Jessica or Liz Reed. Or Southbound. Or Statesboro.

I just heard from a friend who heard from her sister's boyfriend's cousin that Chuck was spotted hugging a tree with Sasquatch in Yellowstone. So that confirms pretty well that he won't be making any of the remaining dates for the Beacon.

Actually I ran into Chuick and Dickey at Yogi's last night, but did not get the chance to talk to them, because I woke up.

Interesting. I don't think EC has played with any of those guys since the 1990s. The 1980s and 90s solo band was one of EC's longest lineups in his career, with Gregg Phillinganes on keys and Nathan East on bass, as well as a rotating cast of drummers and second guitarists. I don't think EC has played with those guys in several years now. Wonder if they all had a falling out with him.

Nathan East & Andy Fairweather-Low lasted the longest before leaving (never have read the circumstances for Nathan's departure, whether it was a falling our or if he just wanted to explore other options). And, I just figured Andy left because Doyle joined up. But, he's going to be back with EC on the upcoming Royal Albert Hall run.

That's too bad about Chuck...I thought he & Clapton were pretty good together. (made more sense than his being with the Stones, I think...the Stones' keyboard position seems pretty invisible...he was featured more with EC)

In his book Clapton is the ONLY musician/employer Chuck had nothing good to say about. He said after his run-in with Forrester EC was very distant and the after-last gig party was very strained and awkward. He assumed that the next time EC went out on tour he would be included but realized that it wasn't going to happen. Never got a phone call from EC, nothing. Not sure if they have ever spoken since. Forrester, who sounds like a major pr!ck, is no longer EC's manager. Maybe that's why he's laughing a lot more and willing to work outside his comfort zone.

I've met Chuck and he truly is a Southern Gentleman. For him to speak badly about someone would seem to be out of character and really makes you wonder about the other person.

Chuck had nothing but great things to say about the Stones in his book. Said they were a first-class organization to work for and they they were all great guys to work and play with, especially Keith, and they treated his family great.

wasn't harvey mason also in EC 's band with Nathan?

Maybe...Steve Gadd played drums with EC for a while too around the From The Cradle tour time

Personally I MUCH prefer Willie Weeks' playing to Nathan's, although Nathan sure seems like a very nice guy.

I don't recall Harvey Mason ever being in EC's band. The only drummers I'm aware of during Nathan East's tenure in EC's band are:

Phil Collins
Steve Ferrone (now with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)
Steve Gadd

Oh, I wasn't saying that the Stones aren't great to work with/for, I was just saying that EC seems to feature his keyboardists moreso than the Stones.

EC went with Willie Weeks instead of Nathan for the material he was playing the last couple of years. Nathan also did not play on the mid 90's Blues tours.

As for Andy Fairweather, he had a bout with cancer after the Japan 2003 shows and was replaced by Doyle Bramhall and then Derek also joined in for the 2006-07 shows.

First I had heard of Chuck being upset with EC. I had heard Chuck once in an interview describing the unplugged show as one of the highlights of his career.

I'm not surprised though about Chuck getting pinched. Roger Forrester had a reputation for cutting corners and being somewhat ruthless in regard to financial matters while he managed Clapton's career. Read Pattie Boyd's book and you can see some more examples. Roger though is no longer part of EC's team and has not been since about 1999 or so.
