here's basically what i did.

i'm currently working on an album that ringo said he would play drums on at least one track. Because i'm the main engineer on the album i was needed to help sort out any tech issues with ProTools basically.
Ringo invited the artist i'm working with and myself up to his house for the recording. He has a small studio here in LA in his house that he can work from.
so, i assisted in recording the drums yesterday for the album.
The whole thing was really cool. I must say Ringo is a really nice guy. He joked around with me a lot, made me feel very welcome in his home and included me in the conversations. He even one time turned to me and asked me my opinion of the drums (i'm also 26. the rest of the room was 40's to 60's in age). I didn't dare say anything but, "it sounds great. you still have a great swing to your playing." (which is the truth really).
After the recording he invited us to come and listen to pieces of his new album in his living room and i got to hang out with him and chat about music. I heard all kinds of stories about growing up in liverpool and some beatles stuff.
He had all kinds of cool memorabilia around.

I must say the best part about it was being in the room next to ringo while he's playing. He still has this great swing and those ringo fills. today at work i started sorting through what he played and there's all kinds of great stuff in it.

I didn't take a picture, get an autograph or anything like that. I was there to do a job and the man was kind and trusting enough to let me into his home.

i could seriously write a book about the day. It was an unbelievable experience.

Congratulations on what must be a dream come true! I've always maintained that Ringo Starr is a very under-rated drummer. It's so good to hear that he still has his feet on the ground, too!

5 years ago i hadn't even graduated college. I hadn't even recorded my final "thesis" project yet as an aspiring film composer.

I must say thinking about it, Ringo did a nice thing for me. It must be pretty rare, considering past events to other beatles, for him to let someone in his house he doesn't know. Just letting me help out with this session was a huge thing for my career and i think he knew it.

Secondly, all the things people say about being a professional musician are pretty true. Low wages, long hours, weird situations, debt from gear, dealing with drug addicts; they're all true BUT it's all worth it for the day you do something like work with Ringo Starr.

After reading your account, I don't think my first comment is appropriate.

I don't have the words to describe an experience like that.

Nice deal, Rob.

The "celebrities" I've met during my days in the biz were really down to earth for the most part. One learns that if you treat them like real people instead of star tripping them they reciprocate - usually.

Nice to hear Mr. Starkey is that way, although I'd be surprised if he wasn't.

Let us know when the project is released.
