Man a dang live! I have been real busy today finishing up the stage for the Hoopee Jam and noticed when I laid down tonight that I had a slight cramp in my thigh. I tossed and turned a little and dozed off to sleep, but about 10 minutes ago I woke up in some of the most terrible pain one can imagine! Both of my thighs were cramping like a MF'er..! I couldn't help, but scream. I don't think Renee has ever been through one of these damn things and put some Icy Hot on both of my thighs trying to help me out, but that only made matters worse cause my nads got that eff'n Icy Hot on them and I was really in some major pain! I jumped in the shower and hosed down with the coldest water on can imagine for about 5 minutes before the pain from two things subsided.

Has anyone out there ever had Charley Horses? Severe ones? I had one several months ago and the next day went looking allover to discover they no longer make quinine available. I hunted allover for something to no avail, but when I made it down to Florida on one of my visits to see my Mom I found some pills to relieve CH's and it had some quinine in it, but dumbasss me I forget the pills when I leave and up until now haven't needed any. Is there anything a man can take to relieve these damn things?

Steve,

Ice compresses are the best. Could be a mineral deficiency. A banana a day might keep the charley horses away

I too suffer from cramps on occasion. I usually eat a packet of salt.

Renee is a doctor????

Aww Steve... Yes, I have had them and still get them... Yes, try eating a banana everyday... or drink a glass of OJ even when it is happening... got that potassium in there that we need to help with that..
I have had leg cramps so bad ... at night I jump up outta of bed and some times I can't straighten out my leg.. it needs to be massaged... Bill does that ... and I have for him... he has only had one really bad cramp in the 20 yrs we are together... Me, it's almost every other week.... I get them in my feet too.... just horrible.... try to stay calm, relax... and rub, rub ,rub them out........ Good Luck....

As a runner and cyclist I've also had my fair share of charlie horses and they are NOT fun! It turns out the main cause of them is dehydration. 9 times out of 10 you have not been drinking enough. Although it is painful to do, the best response once they occur is to stand up and try to walk around. It might seem counterintuitive, but it is the best thing you can do.

LMAO!!! Sorry, I couldn't help it. Never in my thighs, but every once in a while I will wake up with the same type of cramp in one of my calves. I know the helpless feeling and the pain is intense. Somebody somewhere along the way told me to squeeze my upper lip together as hard as I could when this happens and believe it or not it made the pain subside quicker the next time. I am not making this up. I think it is supposed to have something to do with pressure points.

Before my father retired, he used to get them, one once a week. Man, he would cry so much, because of the pain.

If you get one again, bend your toes, at the ankle, up towards your knees. It will hurt like a mofo at 1st, but will make it pass much faster. Don't massage them though, it could be a blod clot and the rubbing could cause the clot to move to your lung or heart.

Potassium is available as a supplement, and they put it in OJ, like everone said Bannana's are are good if you can eat them. Hydration is as important as potassium and Bluedad, never eat salt, ever.

Pregnancy is the leading cause, due to all the nutrients going to the baby.
