OK, can anyone help me ID this recording??

It's a Duane-era audience tape of very listenable quality...
Sounds like it might have been recorded outdoors?

It's labeled "Tampa '70", but the Live Show Database doesn't list any Tampa shows in '70.

Here's the key: Gregg is sick, and not on the gig...
I'm hearing an electric piano very low in the mix at times, and during the tuning sessions...
And a full-blown smokin' hot B3 during IMOER.
Reese Wynans?

Setlist:

Statesboro Blues (just the ending), into a Jam
Trouble No More (Duane vocal)
Tuning
Goin' Down Slow (Duane vocal)
Tuning
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed

The band is very loose, and both Dickey and Duane are on fire...

Anyway, any help in ID'ing this would be appreciated....

Bruce

PS...

Here's "Trouble No More" with Duane on the vocal...

http://www.radiofreeolga.com/RadioFreeOlga/Allmans.html

You can hear a B3 in there too...

Pretty interesting...

Ya got me. I've never heard this. Very interesting, thanks for sharing! That does sound like Duane singing TNM. Hopefully someone will come forward with some info.

don't know what this is but the Trouble No More is great....
i can hear duane, dickey, and berry....you're right -the organ is not gregg...
maybe it's more of those "jacksonville" jams that predate the Allman Brothers Band.......
or maybe those "ungaro NYC" shows where gregg was sick....
i'd love to hear the rest...

The show was at Curtis Hixon Hall, Tampa

Bill Thames was there and so was i, I rember Gregg had a problem with his throat and the crowd started to boo until Duane and Dicky put everybody where they wanted them. I have a friend in Tampa that also recorded it on a cheap recorder but i Can't find him to find out what the date was........it had to have been sometime between mar.'70 when they played st. pete and when duane played curtis hixon with derek and dominos......best i can do ask Bill

Duane used to sing "Hey Joe" a lot in the early days, it would be cool to hear that one again.

Duane pulling double duty. His voice had thet old " No Money Down " humoresque pitch and woo to it.

Sounds like Gregg giving the monitor talk after the song.

I notice that Bruce mentions that there is only the end of Statesboro Blues which is going into a jam ... I believe this jam ending was only played for a short time period and it is only on a very few recorded versions ... I have checked out all the recordings of Statesboro Blues from that era and note the following:

01 / 16 / 70 ... FILLMORE WEST SAN FRANCISCO ..... NORMAL ENDING
01 / 20 / 70 ... UC RIVERSIDE ..... NO STATESBORO
02 / 11 / 70 ... FILLMORE EAST NEW YORK ..... NORMAL ENDING
02 / 14 / 70 ... FILLMORE EAST NEW YORK ..... NO STATESBORO
03 / 13 / 70 ... WAREHOUSE NEW ORLEANS ..... NO STATESBORO
04 / 04 / 70 ... LUDLOW GARAGE CINCINNATI ..... DOUBLE ENDING
04 / 28 / 70 ... S.U.N.Y. STONYBROOK ..... DOUBLE ENDING
05 / 02 / 70 ... SWARTHMORE COLLEGE ..... DOUBLE ENDING
06 / 14 / 70 ... PIEDMONT PARK ATLANTA ..... NO STATESBORO
07 / 03 / 70 ... BYRON GEORGIA ..... DOUBLE ENDING

07 / 05 / 70 ... BYRON GEORGIA ..... NORMAL ENDING
07 / 17 / 70 ... LOVE VALLEY FESTIVAL ..... NORMAL ENDING
07 / 19 / 70 ... LOVE VALLEY FESTIVAL ..... NO STATESBORO
07 / 26 / 70 ... S.U.N.Y. STONYBROOK ..... NO STATESBORO
09 / 04 / 70 ... THE SCENE MILWAUKEE ..... NORMAL ENDING
09 / 27 / 70 ... PIEDMONT PARK ATLANTA ..... NO STATESBORO
12 / 13 / 70 ... AMERICAN UNIVERSITY WASHINGTON ..... NORMAL ENDING
12 / 31 / 70 ... WAREHOUSE - NEW ORLEANS ..... NORMAL ENDING

As can be seen, based upon the traded recordings the experimentation with a double ending on Statesboro Blues spans the Ludlow Garage to Atlanta Pop period.

Based upon this, I would suggest that this new recording is from sometime between April and June 1970.

Good call...

The "double ending" on this recording (as you'll all hear soon) is very hesitant and tentative (unlike Ludlow Garage), almost as though Duane knows he's gotta fill out some time without Gregg around... :-)

Man, the more I listen to TNM, the cooler it gets...
That vocal/slide call-and-response from Duane is just too cool...

OK, I'm not hip to the legalities of posting live material around here...

Is it cool and legal to post this recording at my site for ya'll to download??

I wonder, therefore, if this was the very first time they played the "double ending" for the very reason that you propose being that Duane felt the need to fill out the tunes that night ... and which then led to their experimentation with the jam ending for the next few months ... if so, then that would suggest that this show is in late March - database has them playing St Pete's FL on Friday 3/20/70 and Melbourne FL on Sat 3/21/70 ...

Yeah, let's see if we can pin down a date, and meanwhile I'm going to see how it sounds in the studio...
Might need a little tweaking here and there...

I'm sure you're quite capable. Keep in mind that there are several folks here, i.e. jdbs2, masahiko, scotiadave, and of course capt skipper, that have a lot of experience remastering if you want some help. As far as dating it, well the more people hear it, the better.
Just a thought
