I can't seem to find any detailed info on this anywhere. I 've seen several references to folks gathering on December 5 and the Big House website simply says there will be a "private reception and preview tour". And of course there is the Fly South Festival with Derek. Anyone know anything else?

Hey bro, don't get discouraged. You put your inquiry out there. Give it a little time. A lot of people are interested in the Big House and the grand opening, so this is a great way to get some discussion going on it. Someone might know something...

Peace!

On a side note Brewster.....have you seen the 'Please Call Home' DVD?

I bought it, watched it...watched it again with my girlfriend....

And although interesting to the die hard fan....it isn't exactly what I thought it was going to be.

Don't get me wrong, I like it....but...

I've been to The Big House, was there when Kirk was moving out, he gave me a personal tour...as he did to countless others when it was a "drop in" deal.

Had lunch at H&H...

The Big House will do fine as a museum.

On the Big House Foundation web site it says those who donated $5000 will be invited to a
private reception and tour.

Anyway I'm cancelling my plans for that weekend. It makes no sense without knowing what is going on.

The Tinsley Ellis show is a private party on Dec. 4th. It seems like a private weekend to me.

Tinsley Ellis is a private show too? Dang! I made room reservations a while back when the rumors were flying about the ABB show on the 4th and dTb on the 5th. Now I'm not so sure either.

The opening of the Big House - The ABB Museum - is shaping up to be another lost opportunity; not on the scale of the Georgia no show debacle of '09 but its up there. I have heard a report of its opening on NPR and read about it in other print media. Hittin the Note has been talking it up for some time. Reports are that this wouldn't have materialized without fan support and contributions have come in from all over the world. And here we are with the opening just over a month from now and no one seems to have any idea of what is going down. The website says only that there will be a "private reception" for the big donors no doubt. And that is of course fine but I bet if they made this into a bigger event, they would see all kinds of folks showing up with even more moeny to donate. This should be such a big deal for Georgia's favorite sons, home after 40 years, with national press coverage and lots of fanfare. But so far only Derek will be around and I doubt he will have time for a whole lot considering he is on a breakneck 5 shows in a row schedule; Tampa is the next day. I do notice that Gregg seems to be free so hopefully he'll show his face.

Anyway, its back to marketing! I've got some ideas so should managment want to consult me I'd be sure to clear my calendar for them!

The worst part is the guessing game. Lana finally did tell us no more ABB until next March in NYC.
But Gregg and Warren have open calendars that weekend. Will they be there with their bands or alone.
Only a month away now so I can't wait much longer to hear. I will be cancelling my hotel reservations.
The band doesn't owe us anything. We don't owe them anything either. That's how I feel about it.
Entertaining the big donors is fine, I understand that. But some of us spend several thousand dollars
a year to see the ABB, Mule, Gregg and Friends. Just give us some information. Why always so secretive?

There's 11 albums of pix,

There's 29 pix of 2009 'renouvations
30 pix of Big House Visitors

The renouvations pix are interesting, someome has been carefully documenting the progress.

The site also, seems to regularly post, up-dates,......

Weekend for the highrollers, the oldtimers and the new regime ONLY. Music by Jaimoe's Jazzass Band. No, the rest of the band won't be there. Shoot, they already made the movie, why would we expect more?

The hardcore folks like the Sweeties, Jamgram and Syd, Erin and family, Helen, BDOB, Bluedad, Slammer, etc. and the reset of the real royalty are persona non grata the weekend of the 4th and 5th. I hope they invited Mama Louise.

Even if you bought a small brick, well, that just ain't enough. The loyal, the loving, the dedicated, the reason the Museum was created can come another time. Sorry, fans, doesn't seem we count. I myself could probably go as "somebody's date". I choose not to.

And then......

the Museum will be open for everybody all the time! That is good news for the fans far and wide. It is to me!

Derek is playing for the public on Dec. 5th and I will be there. Love the dtb and am looking forward to seeing them!

As Hophead would say, Hey there now, Ellen!
You know I did think that you and your newly "sublime" partner, as well as Ron, would've gotten invites. Let's face it, some people do deserve to cross over from fan to insider.

Even though I'm still pretty bitter over the lack of GA shows, I see nothing wrong with the Big House only inviting a select number to the opening. I mean, it is a big house, but not one with unlimited capacity. I just wish that a benefit show in Macon had happened.

What exactly is the big house? I can tell by reading the thread it's an ABB museum, but was it originally a house one of them grew up in?

rottinpeach, did you intend to post that four times?

I am going to Macon this weekend for a Big House Benefit at the Cox Theater.
I never miss a good chance to see Jimmy Hall. No ABB. No DTB. Who needs them anyway?

I understand having a private reception for big contributors. What I don't understand is the secrecy.
People have been making plans based on guesses. Finally we know. Even the Tinsley Ellis show is a
private party! It kind of dulls the luster of the BH for me.

Private functions for a band that has been supported by a hard core group of fans for many years? Again,it is there call to do whatever they want to but IMHO, they owe folks open and candid communication. You would think a band that has been propped up for many a year by HARDCORE fans would be more forth coming and really show some appreciation for the miles, money and efforts put forth to show the love for the ABB. Good luck with the Big House and I will miss Tinsley.

I don't get all the scarcasm and negative vibe?
Wait and the time will come when the musuem
is open to all. I just don't understand people who
want to point out that "BO rented it for a ..."
or that big donors are the only folks invited to
an opening. I'm involved with Patsy Cline's home
and museum. Everyone in our organization has
the same goal but from time to time the public looks
at our decisions and thinks we are .... not thinking
about the fans. Patsy's home has a few parrallel issues
with the Big House. Focus on the bigger picture with
respect to the Big House. It will soon be open and we
will all be able to visit and relish in the efforts of those
who worked hard and raised money to make it all happen.
It is extremely difficult to open a museum dedicated to
a musician. The chances that is will survive, long term, let alone thrive,
are slim. Again, I am part of a group working on Patsy's home.
We have examined other museums dedicated to a musical group
or musician and the fact is, very few survive without Local, State or
Federal funds. Fans cannot support, normally, a musuem dedicated
to an artist. For example there is a Buddy Holly museum, funded
almost entirely by the locality. BB Kings museum has an operating budget
of $300,000 annually. This is a tough road to go down and unfortunately,
depending upon how you look at it, it's all about money.
So yes, I do understand taking care of donors and I do understand
a private reception. I also understand the frustration of fans. Heck, I was
at the Big House in June on my way to Wanee. I was so excited to see
the work going on. I was telling my wife how we should plan a trip
back to Macon in Dec. when it was slated to be complete. Look, I love
this band as much as many of you do but I'm willing to wait. I have not
given a penny to the musuem, but I have seen a lot of shows and purchased
a lot of t-shirts, etc... I feel I have contributed, as many of you obviously do,
to this musuem. Fact is, I have not. Please don't get frustrated with the
process and timetables because we are all in this for the same reason.
We do want to see a museum dedicated to the Best Band in The Land!

The negativity comes partly from lack of communication on the part of the band
and it's management. Rumors were flying and a lot of fans bought into it and
made plans. Information was forthcoming only a few days ago. Not timely.

A lot of fans feel left out. It is a legitimate complaint. Should fans be positive about this treatment?
Fans will come back and go to shows and buy music. They aren't likely to forget how they were
treated by the Band they love. At this point I won't go out of my way to see the Big House.

People are allowed to have and express negative feelings. It's called being human.

Excuse me if I don't start the first Hip-Hip-Hooray!

I don't purport to speak for others. This is based on what I've been reading here and my own feelings.
